Default ST170 Water Leak Help Please

Hello, been noticing a wet patch on the drive over the past few weeks and got a chance to investigate further.

Looks like it's coming from the Thermostat, I heard that the seal in the Thermostat is a usual cause but when i checked it seems to be coming from a rubber bung type thing at the bottom of it.

I have attached a picture below of the leak, the picture has been taken from under the car.

My question is, what part is it that needs replacing? and how do you replace it?

Thanks for your help in advance.

The thermostat housing is well known for cracking.
I just repaced mine 2 weeks ago.
So my guess would be the housing.

Hello, thanks for your reply.

Where's the best place to get these from?

When fitting do you need to drain the hole system? Is it an easy job or did you have any complications?

Thanks Rob

It is very common for the seal around the bung in the bottom of the thermostat housing to leak, it happened on my old st170.

Ford will try and sell you a complete housing, but the bung and seal are available seperately!!

Thanks, do you know if you have to take off the whole hosing to take the bung out? When taking the bung out will all the coolant drain out?

Do you have a link where i can pick up a bung from.

Cheers for your help

Seem to remember the bung and seal was around £5-10 from Ford. No you don't need to remove the housing, you might loose a litre of coolant, but catch it in a clean tray if you can then pour it back in. Its easy enough to do, you just can't really see what you are doing as it is underneath.

This is the part, on the RS the hole in the housing is used for a water feed to the turbo, but the ST170 doesn't need it so it has a bung fitted.

That's the bugger!! I will give Ford a ring today. I have been looking on google and eBay but don't seem to find anything like your picture.

How do you remove the bung? Do you just pull it out with a pair of pliers?

Thanks

Bought part from Ford today Part Number 1150991 £9.50

Apparently there's a metal clip that holds the bung in place.

Will replace when i get some spare time over the weekend and report back.
