Default 6 Ton Press

Looking at buying a press for things like wheel bearings, bushes etc and was wondering if a 6 Ton press will be enough?

Eg: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-Ton-Industri...QQcmdZViewItem

Cheers

Easily enough, not needed though, can be done without, I haven't needed a press in over 25 years for these.

Sweet.

I know I could do it with a threaded bar and some large washers but a press would be useful for other stuff too and I like to have big toys in the garage

Cheers

Press looks ok .. Light duty if anything ..

You can always replace the Jack with different rams .. Find out what MAX rating the bench is good for.

just buy a 10 tonne bottle jack, which are sub Ł20 and usefull for other jobs, and bolt together a very sturdy frame. Im going to build one with 2 lengths of 4" U section Chanel and some hefty threaded bar so it is height adustable.

I'll probably buy the 6ton and then upgrade the bottle jack at some point in the future if required.

I only really need it for bearing and bushes.

Cheers Guys

I have a Sealey one in stock - will look what it is tomorrow

(Think its 10T)

Some of the bushes on modern Ford and Vauxhall rear axles are becoming a pain without one now.

Agree on some of the newer wishbones etc as we struggle like mad to get brand new ones out to replace them with alloy spherical bearings on things like Mk6 Fiestas etc. Some of them are pressed in under immense load

But for wheel bearings canabis resin and rusty bushes etc a smaller one will get you up and running. Im sure thats where some that sell end up lol

Hmmm, getting a few mixed messages now...

Some saying a 6ton should do for the odd wheel bearing and others are saying a 10+ is required minimum, maybe even a 30!

Now I'm confused

I would have thought anything over 20ton would start to bend the races?

Yes its a 10T one similar to this (ie proper hydraulic ram etc)

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...raulic-presses

Ł185 delivered

So not sure if its more than you wanted to pay, but to do some of the jobs you do need a decent pressure one.

I've got the 12tonne version of the same press you're looking, even bought from the same people (KMS)

It's perfect for wheel bearings/bushes etc. IMO go for the 12tonne as its only a few quid extra iirc.
