2.0 16v Fiesta MK3.5 Si Restoration, a year of ownership....
Owned this car for almost a year now, its seen a lot of changes, both cosmetic and performance wise.
Started out as a 1600 16v Fiesta Si with 49.000 miles on the clock, purchased on eBay for 850.00 with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax:
I then lowered it 35mm and added a set of Team Dynamics Phantoms -
I then got myself a full scorpian system with de-cat for 80.00 posted off ebay, bargain :
Then bought a Gmax springs and shocks kit for 100 notes, 60mm lower -
Then about a week later it snowed and i decided to do some drifting, and ended up going toe to toe with a nice kerb, so back to the steelies it was:
Then on the 31st December 2005, this beast landed on my driveway:
One MK1 2.0 16v Engine.
Well actually i had attempted to pick it up earlier on in the week but with my car being stupidly low on 14 inch steelies, and the bloke with the engine being down the other end of an icy farm track, it wasnt happening!
While i was stripping it down and building it up, i got pissed off with various rust bubbles dotted all over the car, which was quite annoying seeing as it had hardly done any miles at all..
Meanwhile, the mondeo engine got molested:
and after a good tidy up and a lick of the good old hammerite she became:
Then take one brand new RS1800 Manifold from ebay:
The car also got treated to a nice sexy set of wolfrace voodoos (80 quid) and some black lexus lights -
Escort/Fiesta Zetec Waterpump:
Shiny thing -
Laguna Splitter fitted, looking sexy as :
2.0 DESK ECU and MAF sensor from same car -
Pickup pipe and sump changed to fiesta zetec items, ( 2.0 sump has the gap in the wrong place and will foul exhaust manifold, 2.0 pickup pipe would then foul the inside of the fiesta sump, so fiesta pickup pipe fits straight on)
1.6 sump is the silver cleaner one next to the 2.0 dirty one -
New plates -
Attacked more rust:
The 2.0 was then fitted at the beginning of Feb, took my mate to court in sheffield to give it a blast out..
No pics of the engine being fitted as i smashed my camera and was waiting for a warranty replacement.. however -
Then disaster struck near to home:
GRRR!
New wheels -
Too big, tyres are expensive and they scrape like a bugger, currently for sale... wished id kept the voodoos.
Then one sleepy morning going to the jobcentre, lets change lanes, BANG!
Off roading down avon dasset hills -
Smoothed my boot and fitted MK5 Zetec S Rear Bumper
Then i blew up the gearbox being silly, so i decided to strip it and scrap it.
The next day i had a change of heart, and she was to be restored to a rust free shell !
Front wings off, one was rotton and was rotton and dented from the crash -
Rusty front valance off -
The worst and most problematic part, which started as a 5p rust bubble -
Need to cut this from a spare car i have and weld it into place.
New wings fitted, bolt on instead of spot welded on -
Just a temporary fix for now, will make it neater and get proper bolts when its on for good.
Quick check of the panel gaps :
Lovely job.
Need to attach it to the sill and the front panel.
Next plans -
Get her running again.
Fit new box
Drill and test Fit the other wing.
Remove both wings, sort rust, zinc prime inner wings and hammerite them.
Re fit washer bottle to left hand side.
Paint insides of the new wings
Trim small amount of the lip off the new wings to avoid tyres scrubbing the arches.
Fit new gearbox
Fit new lower arms.
Get the new front lower valance welded on.
Get 2 full sills professionally welded on.
Then a full respray in either panther black or moondust silver in the summer.
Xr2i front with inner fogs removed, semi badboy bonnet, window tints, new alloys, fit xr2i skirts and arches all to come.
Will update when ive done more !

Shes coming along slowly.
Had trouble sourcing another gearbox, my choice was limited to
XR2i 16v
RS1800
Diesel
s2 Turbo box
S2 turbo boxes are rare, or either ragged and shagged or been rebuilt with the owners looking for 300+ for them.
Virtually impossible to find a 2i 16v or a RS1800 box within 200 miles of me, so ive opted for a diesel item just to get it back on the road,
Ive cleaned all the inner wings and arches and painted them with gloss black coach enamel.
Then all i need to do is:
Drill holes for drivers wing and test fit.
Remove both wings and trim the lips and paint the inner sides to protect.
Fit washer bottle back on pass side
Fit charcoal filter back on drivers side
Put the wings on.
Then its just a case of getting the gearbox in.
Then refitting the shocks, lower arm carriers, new lower arms, new gearbox mounts, brakes hubs and driveshafts and maybe she will be good to go again
Its awful being without a car !

Well one wing on the passenger side is sitting all fine and dandy, but the bolt on method isnt really working, so my friend should be welding them on in the morning all being well.
The driver side one chose to be a complete c unit, first the gap between the door was huge, then it was too small and caught the door, then the bonnet landed on the wing when i shut it, finally got it sitting, but then noticed it sticks out past the door
Will trim the insides tommorow, then bolt it on, position it then just force it into place carefully with a weld each time sodding thing.
Then i just need the lower arms, gearbox mounts and the box, gonna be costing me the best part of 175 quid, and id still need to source the lower valance and weld that on at a later date and a piece to replace the rear quarter.
Need her back on the road, its doing my head in without her
Mind you battery has been off for 2 weeks, so at least the ECU can reprog itself, seems to loose its code after a couple of weeks
Ah well, shes getting there and shes not as bad as a few old dog Si's ive worked with.
Its only done 55,000, sad it has to have new wings already, fucking ford..

cool project
ello mate, iv got an si and iv been thinking bout getting a conversion done, iv been considering an xr2i lump or a 2.0 16v out of a mondeo, i presume thats where you sourced your 2.0 from?? i was wondering what are the major complications of doing the project and what kind of time scale it takes to get it back on the road? cheers lewis

Well, today my friend and i welded the wings on, the bolt on method really wasnt working, id removed the bolts a couple of times and they had sort of made there holes in the inner wing too big meaning i couldnt tighten them again and the wing was loose.
After handing a good mate 20 quid for welding them both on and the fact he did my smoothed boot, it was looking 95% sexy the bumper sits a bit high on the drivers side and the headlights are pissing me off, but she should be good to go.
Hopefully in the next couple of days have her back on the road, getting the gearbox tommorow, and the lower arms and gearbox mounts if they are in stock which im hoping they are, need to clean the outer cv joints and regrease them with new fresh grease and cable tie the gaitors back over.
Put the exhaust, rad, few pipes, water in her and jump start it off my mums car and she should be good to go.
Looks a bit of a shed thought all black and green bits and on steelies
A moondust silver respray is coming next, i need a new power steering rack, flexi hoses and brake lines, and to weld apiece on the rear valance but shes all good to be back on the road going to be so happy !

at the end of the day he is the one saying i am the one out of order??? when he is saying i need a slap??? i am not the one who drives round in a car that wasn't insured properly!!! its people like tom that hit people crossing the street and other cars uninsured and others suffer not him!!!
people like me who try to get by, by trading fair and doing things the legal way suffer because of prats like him!!!!
i have said me piece now and will no longer be replying, but 1 thing is for sure tom will always be tom and he is and will always be a loser...
but of course i am the loser for being a genuine person and speaking the truth!?
