Default Starting a car after a long time

Hey guys,

My MK4 Escort xr3i cabriolet hasn't been started for almost three years now.

I kept it garaged as I neither had the time nor the money..

Can I just start it up as usual after charging the battery and topping up oil and cooling liquid or is there anything I should be cautious of?

Cheers

Fox

Inspect the cambelt for perishing / wear, replace if it doesn't look 100%. Fresh oil / filter, turn the engine over a few times by hand first then fire it up! Fuel may be stale so you might need to drain and fill with fresh.

Being a cvh I'd change the cambelt before u do anything. I expect the fuel will be stale so drain the tank and put fresh fuel in, change the engine oil also. Turn the engine by hand just to make sure it isn't stuck/seized etc. disconnect the king lead off the dizzy and turn it over untill oil pressure light goes out then wait to see if the light comes back on when oil pressure drops. Then re connect king lead and give it a try

plugs out and a drop of oil down there is worth doing also, and once turned by hand, crank it a few times without the coil attached before firing up.
