'Cosworth' front driveshafts

'Cosworth' front driveshafts
This is possibly a long shot.. But can anyone tell me what front driveshafts these are from?
I had them fitted to my cosworth converted 4x4 puma, the inner CV's went and so trying to be sensible replaced them with GGR extended shafts - unfortunately on the first drive my passenger side popped out coming off a roundabout with a bit of power down.. Wasn't impressed to say the least!
I'm now doubting whether the original shafts were actually original cosworth shafts from an escort or saph. Which is leading me to believe these might be XR4x4 shafts?
The TCA's on the car have bodged ball joints on the end.. Puma ball joints I think so wondering whether the track is now wider than normal cosworth.. The car is lowered on 18's for reference.

I have a set off my pug, the ones I have are either XR or cossie if you want to compare...I am on Surrey / hants border. My replacements are std cossie so we have another comparison there and the pug is up on Ramps so easy to compare.

I know what you mean with the right shaft, as it thought that when I looked at it, it seems to be a 'factory' weld and doesn't look like a chopped shaft although I could be wrong. What's confusing me is the difference between the two, I know on front wheel drive cars it's common to have a hollow shaft one side and solid the other but these should be the same length so why is one hollow and the other solid?
All I know at the minute is that the GGR shafts are probably around 20mm too short.
By any chance does anyone know if a sierra/escort hub end CV would fit into a puma hub? Did ford carry across the same sizes for other ranges?

Hi Warren,

I know the TCA's have been extended which should have made me realise that the shafts will probably be different to standard cosworth. I've also noticed this evening that the steering rack rods have also been extended. So really there were enough clues!!!
It's keeping me guessing anyway!

I wonder why he went to the hassle?? Cant of been camber as the top mounts were moved so surely youd put them where you want.
Filling the arches better you just pick and choose the right wheel offset or use spacers.
Does seem they went for the hard route with some things on the car!

I'm Dan's (....I'd like to say....) good friend and have looked at this car in extensive detail and spent many hours on whatsap discussing its faults
From your knowledge of the car, were the turret tops moved inwards or outwards, and....How do you know this bit of information? Do you know why standard Escort/Sierra standard lower arms were not fitted? the less we say about the current ones the better...

They were pushed outwards. Simple comparison between standard puma and my car (dans got another puma in his garage to compare).
Why they didnt use standard? Your guess is as good as mine. I suspect it was to fill the arches better and consequently move strut tops to correct any camber issues.
You can see it was done by pumaspeed if you look in this picture:
Note that was how it came from DJM, so it was since modified by pumaspeed as you can clearly see where DJM cut and welded on the new shell.

Hi mate I've handled both xr4x4 shafts and cosworth shafts.
They are very strange they must have been modded in the past , no front sierra or escort driveshafts are like that .

The more I look at the original shafts the more I can't piece together what's happened, the larger shaft of the two has a ford stamp under the inner cv boot (or outer) and looks like a factory shaft. But the near side I'm pretty sure is a fabricated shaft.
Are we thinking that Pumaspeed moved the front turrets over more after fitting the arches?

Ok I'm seeing what they have done then. When DJM built the car they built the front track for a standard puma or standard escort/seirra and also without the strut brace mounting plates either side (I'm assuming this is what you mean with the angled reinforcement Warren).
Then when the front arches were put on, for whatever reason the front strut tops were moved and angled further outwards and the plates added for the strut brace. The question I have is how accurately was this done? Judging by the TCA's probably not well!
