Looking for opinions/advice ,£8000 budget
Hi guys, I'm fairly new here so apologies if posted in the wrong place
In the title really , I'm lucky enough to have a budget of £8000 incl. insurance to spend on a second car.
Currently driving 1.6 zetec mk6 escort as daily
24 years old , 2 years ncb, my insurance is pretty low at full comp and other quotes have confirmed this
I'm looking for something fun for fast road and track use , and possible a potential investment
Been looking at
Mk6 fiesta st
Mk1 focus rs
Various capri's , mk2 fiestas
I'd love a mk1 escort but think itd be outside my budget
Opinions please on what you would do ?
Thanks in advance

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
None of those are going to be potential investments apart from the mk1 focus rs but your talking at least 5-10years until those prices could appreciate. It makes me cringe everyone talking about cars and investments wanting to use them everday but never take into account running costs, storage, insurances etc!

Thanks for the reply ,
I'm not just looking for a car investment, I'm looking for something fast and fun to play with ,
it wouldn't be used as a daily
,would be garaged and pampered
just be used for track days and the odd weekend blast ,
would be nice if it was an investment but far from top of the list , the fun factor is top
There just a few cars I've been browsing, been looking at a few German cars and kit car 7's aswell , but like blue oval badges
Just wondering what other people would do if they were in my situation
any recommendations?

I'd recommend a Mk1 Focus Rs maybe able to get a decent one for 8k but as said they are pretty juicey, problem wise there not to bad. Investment wise it won't really be an investment at that money as you will probably get a 70k car and you've got a couple of years before they start going up.

If it's a second car, so it needs to be something special. The Fezzy ST is a good car, but is it going to give you the tingles every time you drive it? Probably not.
For that money you'd get a beautiful RS Turbo or a nice Saph, both of which will feel like a bit more of an event to drive. You might just about get a classic Escort that needs some work, but you can buy parts for them like there's no tomorrow.
There's also some nice Japanese exotica around for that money, so that might be worth considering. Or something really out there like a Westfield or Caterham.

you could probably get an early Lotus Elise S1 for that money, probably great fun as a car, doubt the insurance would be too much? Advantage of being over 30, £210 fully comp on my sl55 amg!!

As has been said, at 8k you wont be buying a focus that will be the sort after low miler and the rest I doubt will bring the buzz of a weekend toy.
So the suggestion of a mint RS turbo or Saff would be the way to go, get something well sorted and in top condition and keep it like that and you wont loose any money. They are already climbing and will only go up over time.

See some really clean Evo 5/6/7s pop up for that price on the MLR. Get a rare RS model in good nick and you definitely won't loose when you come to sell in a year or two. And to add they are fantastic to drive!

Before I changed over to Classic car insurance on my 450 bhp 2wd Sapphire I was paying for group 20 fully comp around £650 a year.
Who are you insured with as im sure there will be a lot of younger drivers who will be getting a quote from them.

Wow!! You have got a result if you can insure a group 20 car for around £300 at 24 years of age. What car is it? My son pays over £600 a year on his 2001 Subaru WRX STI and he is over 30.

I'm 24, 4 years no claims. Few points and a focus rs was 650 when I had mine.
I sold my focus for 7k a few months back. So you could get one in budget, however. And this is a big however, to run one PROPERLY with decent tires and repairs etc, budget 2k a year in servicing and repairs.
With your budget is probably go for a seat leon cupra r, get a really nice one and it will appreciate.

At 27 with no ncb i could get cheaper insurance then my pal who was 35 max ncb..
Its all on post code..use a friends address.. also just your gob title can save you a bunch.. ive save 100s from changing my details a bit..
Any way..
Id be looking at a tommy mkena evo6 if i was you op..
Older skylines..
Import evo 8 or 9..
May be put 5k down as a deposite on some thing new?
Have you thiught about a project build?
Im pretty much in this frame of mind but im really considering getting a damaged mk7 fiesta and putting a awd 2.0t ecoboost with wrc kit..
I recon its in budget depending on finding both cars at a good price..

I've had all 3 Saff escort and focus Rs all within your budget
Saff: will appreciate if you get a nice one, plenty of tuning potential, high running costs, paranoia is high
Escort: will get an minter for £5k guaranteed appreciation, rust problems, don't drive we'll, parts are cheap, feels like a ford RS should
Focus: values are all over the place £5k-15k. You get what you pay for, mine was 1 owner and has been uber reliable, just sits in the garage, take it out on a sunny day, super reliable, and really is a quick car after a few mods
My money would be on a focus but don't expect to run it on the cheap, look at lots, don't just buy the first one. £8k should get you a 70-80k miler. Personally id buy a modified one, as it saves money, but only if your confident the previous owner has looked after it.

I am not into Jap cars myself but they do offer a lot for the money. A friend of my Son is selling ( it may now be sold ) a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI with a 430 bhp engine conversion with air -con ans all mod cons for £7000. Not sure what the insurance will be but its one hell of a quick modern car for the price.

Iv had a focus mk1 rs and would get another, but personally for a good one Id wanna pay more that 8k for the car and insurance, but if you just want something for a hoot then you'd get that for 7-8k, but as said there not cheap to live with if your using them all the time. Currently got an s2, you'd get a good un for 6 and have plenty left to get it how you want and insure it, all boils down to wether you want an older car or not

within that budget a full blown race car is an option providing you can move it around .

All depends on what your after but I think your budget is plenty for track day fun. Im looking at getting something around the 3k mark at the moment and theres a fair bit of choice.

forget everything. buy a decent evo 3 .. wicked car to drive and track toy . and save the rest of the cash! or spend 2k and buy a nice clio 182 cup and again save the rest of the cash.. clios are wcked fun as a daily car and still capable of taking alot of cars on a racetrack. .you have a 8k budget but why blow the whole 8k when you dont need to lol as a investment id say get a series 1 custom a minter but then you cant track that you will ruin it and itwont be anygood on a track any way unless its modded .. if i was you id be buying a 182 cup or a evo 3 to use and save the rest of the cash. if you want to keep it ford though i have found the fiesta st a boring car..get a mapped up focus st but then insurance costs.. clio is a winner lol

Love the look of that mk2 track car! I'd avoid imprezas at your age personally, they seem to be far more expensive to insure compared with other cars IMO, maybe its just me, but every insurance quote I've had for them is in the many thousands sort of area!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Lots of the cars mentioned in posts above are going to cost you an absolute fortune to insure at 24 years old.
Your 2 years ncb are meaningless as you are already using them on your daily, you can't use them on two policy's simultaneously so you'll be starting from scratch.
Classic insurance is your best option if you're eligible for it, it might be a minimum age of 25 but im not too sure? Think the car has to be over 20 years old?
No matter what forum you're on, there is always so much BS on threads like this about how much it costs to insure cars. Of course you don't know until you get quotes but pay little notice to people who say things like 'i insured an evo when i was 22 for £300' etc

What do you think would happen it it was worse than a bit of scratched paintwork your ultimately not covered for and you were involved in an accident where someone got hurt or runover etc. You'll be fucked

Agree with you, in my first thread I did say to him find out how much it will cost to insure a group 20 car and although I did get a reply from the Honda Civic type R driver, who is young and says even with group 20 his is only £300 per year, if its going to be his second car he will have zero NCB. As for lying about the details, forget it! Insurance companies these days are not stupid and as you said if he was involved in a major prang perhaps with injuries to someone he would be fucked!

If you can get a good early one of these on a classic insurance policy i think its got to be a good choice?
A well sorted rs turbo could also be a good choice too especially from an exciting lairy car to drive and investment point of view but its obviously a totally different type of motor to an m3
Really depends what you're thinking you want?
