I will say the interior build quality of this 172 isnt good it feels quite nasty although it is in great condition and very clean it just feels shocking if reno spent a fiver on it it was Ł2.50 to much

THe 172s arent bad cars, ive just fallen out with Renaults after the best car ive ever bought turned into the worse. looks a nice clean one youve got, watch the lower ball joints, dephaser pulley and the dodgy electrics and you will be fine. Whatever you do though, dont join cliosport.net, literally the worse forum ive ever been on!!

Or right. Can you not buy the connectors from Renault or no doubt it will part of the loom.

Pre-tensioner wiring Jay?, just do away with the plug and hard wire the coont.

Seen 2 Renaults last week (mk2 Clio and a Traffic) with same issue, even just disconnecting and reconnecting the plug and clearing the code works as a temporary measure.

I always got told you couldnt solder air bag wired cause thw resistance would cause the air bags, pretensioners to go off

Just not even vaguely true, there is almost nothing between the two, in fact the 172 cup is generally quicker out of the box than the 182.
Ive got several clios at the moment including a gordini blue 182, and there isnt anything better about them, they have slightly better inlet manifolds (which cost all of 40 quid secondhand if you want to swap) and they have a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold instead of the 4-1 but it doesnt see any real extra power (ive tried both manifolds on the same car and it made almost naff all difference), they simply arent 10bhp more, more like 3-4, nothing at all you would notice.

For a trackday car, the 172 cup is the best bet

Im banned for life from CS.net because I asked publically if the admin guy was actually mental after he went into my girlfriends Trax thread and started editing the pictures to get rid of any logos from other car clubs, they take it all a bit too seriously

They are quite literally batshit crazy over there, but that said its still a good searchable resource, there is a lot of decent info on there.

Chip/Jay

Im now in possesion of my 172 There are a multitude of things wrong, one of them being the baffles in the rear box have gone and its rattling. Seems little point paying out for a new standard exhaust (cat back) so i was looking at K-Tec Racing exhuasts. Any opinions of them and their exhuasts?

LOL that's cheered me up. What a nutter! Guess I'll be banned now lol.

Not bad little cars really, especially when you see the abuse they get. Only thing I don't like is the lack of room, they certainly weren't designed with a bloke in mind. Feel like I need to take my shoes off to drive them.

Gearboxes are only a problem with them if its been abused. Done nearly 180k on mine and never had a problem.
