Default Clio 172

Driven a few cup cars on track but what they like to live with as a daily ?

I have a mk1 focus 2.0 atm and tbh its seen better day's and tbh never liked it but put up with it as it was cheap Been offered a 52 172 80 k just had all the belts ect are they as hardy as the focus ? Is it worth getting rid of the focus over a 172 ?

I had a phase 2 172 and used it everyday and as a track car. Couldn't grumble to be honest, nt bad on fuel not a bad ride either. Only thing I didn't like was the feel of the plastic interior.

I've been wondering this. I'd really like to give one a go as a cheap fun car for the winter, as they're pretty well equipped, but I have concerns about how tough they are, as I'm likely to throw a few miles on it!

I doubt it'll be as reliable as the focus. My mates had a few 2.0 focuses and they've all been bulletproof. Known a few lads to have clio's and they have all had problems a few electrical too and have been a headache!

The clio will be quicker and better then the focus through the corners but won't be a great difference. As said the clios feel very cheap inside as well!

Personally id stick with the focus

it depends on how "cheap" cheap is jay

it might last for ever and a day if it's only a daily

I'd love to have the balls to give one a go, but I can't get my head around spending my own money on one. The fear that it won't take the kind of back road/track work that I'd put it through and make me cry with constant repair bills is stopping me pulling the trigger.

Cheers,
Grant

There's something with any car Glenn but the focus needed both rear arms rear drop links front arms and drop links rear brakes a cam belt ect and the clio owes me £500 so I am happy and if the box goes then it does but the grin factor driving the clio over a focus is miles better

cant see the point in modding it seeing as i have the cossie as well and tbh I dont see throwing a few grand into it is going to work it foes 4 miles a day and will do the occasional track-fun day

182 s are slightly heavier than the 172 so really nothing in it.

I'm on my third. Use it as a Dailey. On bilstien coilovers, rose jointed top mounts. Whiteline arb. 15" smaller wheels. It's a fun little car. The turn in is unreal. Ave 30+mpg aswell.

But. It is noisey, hot, uncomfortable ( I do have Recaros in mine. Was better with std seats )

Only owes me 1400 with all the toys.

I loved my 172 cup had it as a daily driver for 2 years. I beat mine to death it got abused every day, loaded it up with half a ton of cement a few times lol and the only thing I done to it was tyres and fuel, the poor thing was 4 years overdue a service lol and never missed a beat!

Im actually enjoying it more than the cossie you can just throw it around such a forgiving car !! Sort of reminds of a mk2 xr2 with a modern feel it is a great car for the money I really wouldnt of been upset if i had paid 1k for it

Along the same lines but not the same model. Just got myself a Mk3 Clio.

Sold my B7 RS4 and was looking for something to have some fun in. Said I would never go French again as I had a Laguna and I has so many issues with the gearbox so I despised them!!

Took the plunge and got the Clio after seeing the spec and being told the sport models are built much better than the run of the mill cars and I love it! As said they are so much fun!! Turn in is unreal so at the moment I am converted but I do find myself waiting for it to let me down! I hope it proves me wrong!

It's a Clio 200 Cup but running a Megane sport engine putting out 300bhp! Only weighs 1000kg so it upsets a fair bit on the road! Can't wait to get it on track!!
