if budget is a consideration then an RST is far cheaper to restore/project than a saff.

depends what you want out of it, restoration, track car, sell on for profit etc?

id pick an oldish hatch, ford if it has to be

for that budget id be tempted to get a mk5 fiesta zs, also not has to be done for them to look really nice and they can be taken very far

but if you want a turbo id get a S2, just beware of rust

24v v6 into a saff is your cheapest bet.

if going yb say goodbye to your 2k budget just for the engine

depends on what you want to use it for, track days, drifting or strip racing or just whoring it about town,
id say a 1.8 focus with engine mods for reliability and easiness or a mk1 fiesta sleeper standard looking with a zetec, relativly cheap to get a good one and zetecs are ten a penny and its a well documnted conversion
