if i turn from 2wd to 4wd do i change ABS set up?

plan is turn my 2wd into 4wd…. i was going to run 2wd rear as thats what i have but run the 4wd up front on the 4wd hubs etc….

i have front and back 2wd ABS sensors (& ecu n loom)
i have front 4wd ABS sensors for hubs.

the sensors are the same on all sierras yes

the sensors on the escort cos have a different plug

you deffo need a 4x4 abs ecu and you will need to check the wiring diagram in case its different aswell
The wiring is a stand alone loom and can be removed and replaced easy enough but im not certain you need to do this

So if your car is 2wd and you put 4x4 running gear in it why do you have to change the abs system too.

something to do with the fact the 4x4 ABS pulses more often to protect the viscus coupling in the gearbox.

exactly right

there are extra wires and stuff to do different things

BUT

the 2wd system is better overall, although how it would work to prevent the wheels locking up is a bit vague

the 4wd system effectively "locks" all 4 wheels together when you are slowing down whereas the 2wd set up has effectively 3 different circuits of pulses regulating 2 different circuits of fluid

you should be ok, as it's a bit of a faf to change everything over, it's it's now working then leave it alone would be my vote

id like to leave it alone if poss as was all working as 2wd but to run 4wd set up im obviously changing hubs and so id be changing the brakes as ther different offset etc….

but if i can run full 2wd ABS but using the 4x4 front brake calipers then thats exactly what il do?!!

it's only the sensors, if the new hubs have them still in place just leave them alone, they only break when you try to remove them

you don't need to fiddle with anything else, unplug the sensor from the inner chassis rail and plug the new ones back in again, job jobbed

How do u go about running just the electric pump and no abs? Is it as easy as disconnecting the abs or not? All my sensors are knackered so I need to disconnect.

my 4wd hubs have sensors in so if i take 2wd hubs off (unplugging 2wd sensors not removing from hub) n put the 4wd on (leaving them in their own hubs n just re-plugging them ones in) - just plug the sensors in and dont do anything else at all….? just want to double triple make sure…. thanks for clearing it up for me

yes, do just that, there will be white round plugs mounted in the engine bay along the front of the chassis rails somewhere, there will be grommets running through the chassis rails to secure these plugs so just make sure they go back into the proper holes when you slot them back in again

Ive just done this, i have a 4x4 saph loom with 2wd ecu. All you need to do is move the roll pins on the ecu so the ecu will plug in. I have no lights on but haven't road tested it yet because the engine isnt it

I converted my Saff to 4wd and left ABS alone. Never had any issues.
