no power/ cutting out above 4000 RPM
Hi ,
problem I got is that above 4000 RPM the car cut outs if I keep pushing it climbs to 4500 but no power.
RPM meter stays stable ( no jumping ) and cold start runs 1200 RPM then to 900 RPM.
When hot I need to help starting with the gaspedal otherwise she doesnot start.
Sparkplugs are brown so no overfuelling
Car is 3 dr 1986 cosworth.
gasoline pressure 3 bar measured
turbo pressure ( from what I read on the dash ) around 0,7 bar
ignition cables are changed for MSD motorsport ones
new rotor
new distributor
new sparkplugs ford motorcarft 902 PP gapped 1 mm
phase sensor wiring was broken solderied soem new wired onto it.
new fuel pump last year
new fuel filter last year
new exhaust last year
running out of ideas here almost got a new car

Try to raise revs with light throttle without boost, if it passes 4000rpm without any problems then it's possible that your fuel pressure regulator doesn't raise fuel pressure when boost comes! (Check it with wideband)
Try another fuel pressure regulator!

I got an output at the from of the fuelregulator also is this normal you can put a gauge in there if liked same as the uprated aftermarket ones.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
check the dizzy and knock sensor leads aren't wrong way round,if ok,check the dizzy is connected properly, the car will still run up to 4000rpm with it disconnected, then badly misfire

Will give it a go this weekend but ran IK27 on it the first km ( only ran 500KM ) at 0.7 mm gapped and the problem was also there so I assume the plugs were NOK and there bought original 902 ones :-(

Hi All,
checked my fuel pressure and voltage at the pump .
voltage at the pump stays constant in the RPM range between 12V and 13V under load so good news.
fuel pressure , I got a rs500 fuel regulator I think there I hooked my gauge at the front and found out the fuel pressure was only 2.6 bar raised it to 3 bar running at idle .
Car revs to 5500 now but not smooth.
Also restarting when hot is becoming a problem ( cold no issue ) . I got white smoke coming then as a cloud not always and then it runs perfect ....
............ ?

thx ofr the advice all already,
I am awaiting a dry day here in Belgium now :-(
Put my IK27 ones back in gapped at 0.65 mm as adviced.
Will give it a go and if still a problem will measure the fuel pressure under boost . ( need a longer hose to bring the gauge into the car or over the bonnet )

OK guys, I am losing it with this one.
Car doesnot want ot start anymore now.
Changed the phase sensor by the dizzy ( does it matter what way the red and blue cable is ? )
I put the nr 1 plug ont eh block and it sparks
Sparkplugs are wet ( when I look into the hole from the sparkplug I can see the gasoline standing in the piston so I got them both already what is good news
When I disconnect the injectors the car starts but shutdowns directly ( there I donnot have gasoline I know
So I got spark and gasoline , I turned the gasoline pressure down to 2,5 bar assume it had to much but it still is not starting.
Plugs I tried IK27 gapped 0.65 mm and ford 902 gapped 0.9 mm
The warning light from the engine keeps burning also once a while but not flashing so I cannot read the code :-(
What can cause this ? I donnot want to start to much anymroe there my oil is gone be fludded with gasoline.

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
I was looking at this site last night - the fault you have may be similar to first fault in this guide.

Good evening ,
got the car running finally cleaned the earth of the map sensor.
Put in a new phase and crank sensor and air temp.
Was runnign quite OK untill warm then RPM when giving throttle it dived so much engine almost dies every time you release the pedal ( looked like overfuelling ) .
Turned the CO screw 25 degree richer and runs now complete OK if started .
Only on start up it doesnot want to start without using the trottle and get a cloud of white smoke ( I asssume unburnt fuel ) en then runs OK .
Start up I got the problem with .... what to do ??
Map sensor I measured and is giving OK results.
Gaps are OK .
Only if I umplug the stationair RPM regulator even when hot the care dies ( when hot runnign now 1100 RPM ) is this normal there I remember doing this on 4x4 it did not care about it .
gr,Steven
