cars!!!!!!!!!!!!
I decided to do some work on the car today, due to the damage sustained when coming back from southend, I needed the sump off so decided to chain the engine to the strut brace, and lower the subframe/xmember away.
I had to unseize the coilys so I can raise it for my new wheels/brakes, couldn't shift the collars at all, so ground them down and split them off, found a few surprises along the way, a 1KG bag of heroine!!, no not really two knackered tca, split gaitors on the coilys, and a seriously bad rod end, cars costing me a fortune, but glad I did it, I found my pet hate oil leak from the ford filter.
So about £80 later it should all be back together with all 4 new wheels and new 6 pot brakes, in glorious PINK!!

No mot tester was not blind, he's a serious stickler for things correct tbh.
The reason why I am changing a few bits is the joint on each tca is notchy, pulling the boots off revealed them to be dry, it's purely as I have them off, it doesn't take any effort to put new on, as opposed to a few months down the line when they start clonking.
I was there at the time, and having examined the car before hand no play could be felt with it on wheels or in the air, the boots weren't split so couldn't be failed.
The rod end was uber uber tight and I'm not happy with it, I dare say 99% of people would be happy, but I always massively err on the side of caution, I kn ow what a nutcase I am in the car.
You won't find me taking my car to any body that doesn't do it 100% by the book, I have actually reported people before for passing cars that shouldn't have, where it was a very evident thing, as opposed to a opinion thing.
I am like this as I recall years ago when I bought a mk4 escort from my landlord with shockingly bad brakes, but good enough for the dreadfully slack imo mot.
5 days after I got the car a friends daughter pulled free from her grip at the side of the road I was going along doing 40mph(40 limit), I stopped in time with about 4 feet to spare, had it been the days before I did the brakes she would undoubtedly be dead now, I was actually shaking believe it or not, I don't give a toss about the car, just the little girl being ok.
This car wouldn't lock the wheels at any speed, I thought dodgy mot, so checked it, no they were passable just, bloody dangerous imo, it didn't stop as quick as the drum braked minis I used to drive.

I am of the same opinion as the people I use regarding the MOT, it is seriously slack, I can't believe some items that are not even tested.
It's just an indication at best on the day of the test, pisses me off that some cars/vehicles don't even have to have MOT at any age, such as fire engines, police cars to name a few.
I can't believe daylight mot's exist either, but they do!!
I reported my(then) best mate for having a dodgy MOT, car details were phoned through, and certificate stamped/written put through his door for extra £50, a uno turbo with NO rear brakes, ie NO effort recorded, he was selling the car anyway so didnt want a bill, and I'd report it in a heart beat again, rshole like that is no freind of mine.
I actually point things out if I think they look suspect, there's often things I'm not happy with but mot wise is a pass, I would rather it fail than pass if at all suspect/unsure, I love people who have a rep for being "hard" on the mot.

The steering was NOT NOTCHY, not even in the slightest, the joint was showing NO signs of play, hence it didn't fail, and having re read what I typed I can find no mention of the steering being notchy, but I suppose a a power steering rack versus a stiff joint wouldn't be felt.
I've just spent £400 on car bits today, mostly upgrade parts, do you think I'd even put it in for mot with notchy steering, trust me I wouldn't.
I've ordered a new rack, purely as it was not a lot of money, and saves me pissing about re sealing a 23 year old rack.

Couldn't shift the coilys spring seat so cut them off, £7 new ones(each), plus £6 each for new gaiters.
Try to con some bits off a mate tomorrow, as helping him take box off a 600bhp 3 door he's breaking.
I also don't give a shit what people believe or not I still sleep easy, I've reported 5 people before for dodgy mot's, 2 were on cars I bought, both with new mots and serious corrosion found a few days later.
Don't know why I bother with this site sometimes, should just come on to check my pm's, it's no wonder there are so many surfers on pf that never post, met a lot of peeps that way after getting pm's from them.

I don't know why you bother with this site either. You talk down to people, belittle them, slag other people's ecu,'s off, make up imaginary prices and just generally get up everyone's nose. Saying that you do seem like a very knowledgable chap if only you could change your attitude slightly. You said you changed tca's because the joints were notchy. Which would give notchy steering. Are you an mot tester tabetha? Well I am, do you work for a police duty garage? Well I do
