Engine bearings (ybb)
What ones are people using ? My engine is stripped and its got pinto bearings/shells , I,ve have heard from my engineer that Ford/Cosworth used ACL bearings in our engines. I,m going with the acl,s as thats the preffered route , we have heard other top engine builders do use pinto bearings in the cosworth engine, any thoughts and experiences?
cheers

thanks J1mbo i,ll have a chat about that then , the last rebuild using pinto shells iirc the crank was ground 10thou . The crank is in good condition still, are you saying another regrind is likely or a definate to suit the different bearing?

don't forget to do a dry build with plastigage to check ALL you bearing clearances, it will save you the suprize of "i just rebuilt my engine and its seized, what do i do?" !!!

If the builder is any good, the sizes should all be checked anyway, inc the rods big ends for ovalty, make sure the block if being bored is done with a deck plate, if not go elsewhere.
I used ACL, nothing fancy in my engine, but every aspect of block was checked even for straightness, crank run on bearings etc.
Pay a little extra and get the mega heavy f/wheel lightened at the same time, you'll be glad you did when you drive it.
Why you not doing it yourself ?

If the crank needs a grind and theres already 10thou taking out how far can they go ? This engine will only likely see 350max with myself.

Doing what myself? build the engine you mean ? i dont think so chris!! I wouldn,t want to try tbh i dont seem to have the time for one nevermind all the tools and knowhow . The guy who i now am using is a very reputable engine builder that i know i can trust . My bores are fine just needs rehoning and yeah everything will be checked correctly using the correct methods i.e plastiguage.

Mike,
I've just looked through my receipts, and now don't think mine were ACL's, but can't swear to it, I'll ask brian who supplied them as it is the same ones in their 10,000rpm race engines.

The rpms not really an issue, it's the load.
I found out today that mine most likely has GLYCO, or NEVLOK shells, 99% sure these are PINTO ones that they have used on all their cossie engines including the competition engines they warrant for as long as anyone can remember, they have had no failure to date.
Now thinking about it I seem to remember it was GLYCO in mine.
