Default Help needed please. DPF 2008 2.0tdci

My new 2008 2.0tdci has suddenly had the engine management light come on. I've had it checked and says the diesel paticulate filter is causing it. Do I need to change it or is there any other options available, I've been told its expensive to change. Any advice or help is gratefully appreciated.

What do you mean exactly by playing up?. Its blocked? Its not regenerating? If its blocked then you may need to replace. If its not regenerating you can take it to someone to force a regeneration. It may just need a good long run at high revs to clear itself or you can pay for someone to recalibrate the ecu software to delete the dpf function and have the dpf gutted and will never have a problem again

Need to know exactly what the code is, it can be anything from diluted oil, to a fault causing it not to regenerate as above.

Don't just have the DPF replaced willy nilly, they cost a lot!

Some of these even have a fuel atomiser which injects a small amount of fuel over a glow plug in the front pipe during regen of DPF, these can cause a fault which blows a fuse and puts the EML light on.

So as above, need to know exactly what your fault codes are.

Can buy a DPF for these for about Ł250.
Also there's two pipes that go to the DPF that are common to perish on the MK4s. I'm confident it will be a broken pipe. Go have a nose over on talk ford!

best thing you can do is hollow it out and get the dpf map deleted then you will never have a problem again

^^^^^ What he said. Thats what Im having done on my everyday 407 sw. Same engine as your mondeo. Mine has just brought up a fault saying eolys fluid too low. 39 quid a litre and takes 5 plus apparently main dealer to tell it its had it. Thought fuck it Ill pay to have it remapped with evochips and for an extra 90 odd quid they can do the dpf delete then I'll just gut the insides. Lots more power and hopefully better mpg as the dpf is a bit like david cameron. An annoying economy robbing cunt
