500HP Cams, what should I use?
I am aiming to make 500Hp from my Escort Cosworth.
I have run to the limit of the standard cams and need to know what cams to use without sacrificing to much midrange punch.

If you want to run standard valve springs then use a pair of BD10s.
You do realise that you will get a hundred different answers to this question and nobody will agree with anybody else!!!

already i disagree about the BD10's. i wouldnt touch them, in many cases they sacrife torque just to add a few horses!!

PassionFord Post Whore!!
if you want to go for off the shelf options. and your pistons are pocketed.
BD16 or 16+ or a 509 inlet, and something more std for exhaust.
there are better cams out there, but tuners only fit them to thier own engines, so your limited.
But as already said, very tuner/person has thier own views on this.

You obviously didn't have them set up right then!
At Derbyshire RR day a few years back my Saph Made 466bhp with a pair of BD10s, and that was with a faulty boost controller that wouldn't let me run more than 2 bar boost. The torque curve was also very good, a lot better than some of the more exotic cam combinations.
Ask Dingy if you don't believe me, he may also still have the RR readout somewhere.

I have a Turbonetics GTK500 turbo with and Autronic SMC with four coils and direct fire CDI unit. Full 3.5 inch stainless exhaust. Front mount cooler, newly recoed engine withe wossner pistons group A gasket and ARP headstuds etc etc. Essentially standard cams and intake. Has had port work done. I want to get 500hp and want to know what is going to limit me? Inlet manifold? cams?

Your main restriction will be cams and valve springs if stock, The biggest cam you can run on stock springs is a BD14 but you need to check if the pistons had pockets,
I would recomend running a BD14 inlet and a stock exhaust cam but I think you may struggle to get past 460-470hp,
If you have large valve pockets and better springs then there are many more options.

Also with standard springs and big boost you will get valve float, which will manifest itself in the form of a high rpm / boost misfire, so you WILL need some decent valve springs.

The higher the count of the number, the longer the duration (air/gas-flow) time or not?
best for him, to get more porting, better springs and bigger valves?
and another inlet manifold, at least small turbo escort cosworth or better swedish style or like Mike R. has or so.
I think with stock pistons without valve cutouts there is no way to get enough gasflow for 500 horses.
