Default rs2000 mk6 headbolt

does anybody know the torque settings for the 10 headbolts when doing a headgasket on a 1996 rs2000?

1st stage - 40nm
2nd stage - 55nm
3rd stage - 90 degrees
4th stage - 90 degrees

The newer timing chains will have some gold links, 2 pairs and a single.

The crank sprocket has a mark that needs to be pointing downwards to 6 o'clock whilst the cams have marks the need to be pointing to 9 o'clock for the inlet and 3 o'clock for the exhaust. You should now be able to wrap the new timing chain around the sprockets and have the cams marks in-between the pairs of gold links, and the cranks sprocket in the single gold link.

thanks for that,only thing is i am useing chain with no gold links is there away round this or do i change timing chain

i have done as you said but i am still having trouble when i hand turn /valves hitting pistons 2 and3 any ideas

You need to have the piston part way down the bore on number 1, abouy 25mm BTDC, then set the cams, then bring number 1 piston to TDC.

Best to get a new chain as the gold links are really the key to setting the timing with no other data to hand.

www.rs2000-16v.com has some ford manuals that cover this procedure.
