Default what is the best wheel cleaner, and snowfoam lance? made a start detailing the cars

Afternoon all, going to give my car a good going over with the DAS-6 soon, i have clay etc and polishes but want a snowfoam lance (karcher fitment) and some recommended foam please.

also i use carpro iron-x, but my wheels have been a bit neglected of late and they have some hard lumps of brake dust i cant shift with the iron-x.

once clean i will coat them with carpro DLUX that i already have.

cheers for any input

Lance - Got my new one from here and it's identical to the one I originally paid £45 for:

http://www.i6automotive.co.uk/snow-foam-lances/

As for foam, you can't go wrong with Magifoam - one of the originals:

http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/ind.../magifoam.html

I've moved on to Auto Finesse Avalanche at the mo which isn't quite as "clingy" but seems to do a good job:

http://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/avalanche-1litre

Add a little citrus power (also Auto Finesse) to pep it up a bit or simply add citrus power to the car 3 minutes before snow foaming it for maximum cleaning power.

Wheel cleaner - we use Bilberry of varying dilution rates depending how bad they are:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valet-.../prod_499.html

Lumps on the wheels may be tar - so either use some tar remover (Tardis for instance) or get a bit of used clay and clay it off.

EDIT: if you can't be bothered to get all the snow foam stuff out, then just applying Auto Finesse Citrus Power is a good pre wash step:

I sprayed it only on the right hand side lower portion of the car whilst I got the buckets, hoses and pressure washer ready.

So after about 10 minutes of soak I pressure washed the back evenly left to right with the following results:

Dunno, if it's the best but the Meguiar's All Wheel Cleaner could do this job. It's a very powerful cleaner.

Actually - if you want something acid to take all the crud off, then Wonder wheels will do the job:

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car...r-wheels-500ml

Spray on, agitate with the brush, wait a bit and rinse off. I wouldn't use it on polished BBS or similar as it's quite fierce.

thanks for the replies chaps.
Dal, i dont want to ruin the paint on the wheels and have heard of bilberry so might give that a go. and thanks foe the links to the foam lances, thats a bargain compared to what i have seen them for - like you, £45 or thereabouts!

car is a mk3 Focus ST estate, and has the style pack so darker painted alloys.

Wonder wheels once in a blue moon is fine as long as you rinse it off well and don't let it linger too long...

... but I wouldn't chance it on nice Ford paint finish!

Get some pictures up when you're done!

I use some korrosol to clean my wheels and it can be used as a fallout remover. http://www.bilthamber.com/korrosol

Ordered a foam lance earlier and had a look at what i have.

I have about 200ml of iron x left, got clay, Das6 pro with menzerna ip2100 and sf4100, i also have some gtecniq p1 polish. And still have enough carpro dlux to coat the wheels.

So what i need to buy is:

Snow foam
Shampoo
Wax
And maybe a new mitt and drying towel

Reading through the thread about the swirl marks, bassboy suggests using some carpro c1 to seal the paint, this looks a good idea and i take it one 30ml bottle will do a car lol?
He also suggests fusso wax but i cant find many places other than ebay that sell it.

And finally, the car is panther black if that makes any difference lol.

Ill get some pics, but it wont be for a few weeks till im back off holibobs.

I guess the process is:

Pressure wash first then snowfoam or just go in with the snowfoam first?
Pressure wash
Wash with mitt and shampoo
Pressure wash
Spray iron x all over the car and leave for a few mins
Pressure wash
Clay
Wash with mitt again
Tape up panel gaps
Machine with the menzerna ip4100 and a medium pad
Wipe off
Machine with sf4100 and soft pad
Wipe off
Remove tape and wash with mitt
Dry
Apply carpro C1 and buff
Wax and buff
Clean wheels with bilberry etc, dry, seal with dlux
Go to bed

My favourite shampoo is Dodo Born to be mild. Doesn't leave anything behind and is nice and "suddy". Bilt Hamber Autowash is well regarded too and I'll get some of that soon to try. Try to avoid the shampoos with "added gloss / wax" etc as there's no point decontaminating and claying only to wash it again a put something back on.

I assume you're using 2 buckets for wash? If your car isn't covered with an inch of mud, I'd snow foam on a dry car as it'll linger a bit longer if it's only mildly dusty / dirty.

If you want to go all out decontaminating, then try a tar remover such as TARDIS before using the iron-x, then Clay. I use the G3 clay mitt after Tardis and Korrosol and it works really well.

excellent advice there bud - thanks

i have most of the gear, not much idea

i usually use the dodojuice sour power but ran out, and that has added wax like you say.

yes i use 2 plasterers buckets, one with just water to rinse off every time and one with the soap in it.

do you use the clay mitt instead of clay bar?

Yeah, I use the clay mitt now. It's far easier to use and gets 95% of what a proper claying will do and is far quicker with less marring.
Just wash as normal with your wash mitt and while everything is still wet, replace your wash mitt for the clay mitt and go over it all again using the shampoo as lube.

Wait until there's a 3 for 2 at Halfords

This is the one I've got:

(Well, 3 as you have to have spares don't you? )

The place I worked for had loads of those tubs for different things - they went bust so I nabbed the tubs to keep all the stuff in.

So probably the latter.. although finding the time these days means I don't practice what I preach so much.

thing is tho, once you have a good amount of kit, it will last quite a while.
other than the C1 which will hopefully do my whole car, the rest will last me ages.

so if you pay £30 a time to have a decent job done every couple of months, that will soon pay for itself.

thats the way i look at it anyway

The best wheel cleaner out there is

The Polishing Booths Wheel Cleaner

It is awesome, i also rate Cartec Wheel Cleaner.

I have tried every wheel cleaner over the years, but these 2 are the best.

Also, try Auto Finesse products, i rate them. my favourite quick detailer is Auto Glym's aqua wax mixed with water, 50/50 mix and it's great.

I buy 5L for £25 and ratio it from there, gives me 10L for £25, as opposed to 1 squirty bottle of 500ml for £5, plus AG's Rapid detailer is shit.

Got back off holiday early hours of Tuesday morning - the wife and kids are out there another week so I decided to make the most of my free time so had the day off Tuesday and made a start on the car. wheels off and bilberry cleaner to get brake dust off - much better than iron x imo.

then removed tar and washed them, clayed them and washed again then once dry I sealed them with carpro dlux and left the in the garage for a few days, then waxed them with fusso wax.

that took about 6-7 hours

after work weds I snow foamed the car, washed with the dodo juice, iron x'd, lanced off, them tar removed, washed it again and used the g3 clay mitt (on 3 for 2 at Halfords at the mo) then lanced off.

done the above to the missus car after work Thursday.

last night refitted the wheels to my car and changed the oil/filter on the wife's car

now, typically it was forecast rain for today so I went out and bought a 4.5 meter coleman event shelter for £150...

however what I had not planned on were the 30+mph winds that we had today, so trying to put the shelter up myself this morning was a total cunt, a neighbour came over while I was literally getting blown all over the shop trying to put the bastard up but he just asked me about my holiday, then fucked off. cunt.

still, just about managed it and tied it down to walls, buckets of water the wife's cmax...

then set about taping up the car, used a lot more than I thought id need and ran out when I had nearly done it, then cracked out the DAS6 Pro...

5 hours later it was all polished up... got the swirls out as far as I can see, but there were a few deeper scratches, managed to get most of them either out or to a reasonable level but I was pretty fucked after that!

removed all the tape, jet washed and washed the car and dried it.

got the gtechniq C1 out and started to put it on the bonnet when it stared to cunt it down got the bonnet wet as I was trying to buff off the C1 so that's probably fucked now.

I gave up after that, packed up, put the shelter down, got soaked through, had a shower and ordered a lamb madrass that I have just eaten...

forecast for tomorrow looks cloudy, but dry after 7am but still mega windy.

I cant be fucked to put the shelter up but hopefully ill give the car another wash, do the C1 and wax it with the fusso wax.

the wife's car will have to wait as im bollocksed! sod detailing cars for a living!

hindsight suggests id have been better spending my time and money on cocain and cheap hookers, im sure I would have enjoyed it more

LOL it can be a little trying at times.

I like using Autobright products and if you wait till they have their offers you can save a fair bit of money and the stuff lasts for ages.

Personally i just couldn't stand the Eastern Europeans spraying all that RTF Remover
(acidic) all over my paintwork
