Subaru Impreza Type R '98
It's time to move on and despite 2.5yrs of fun and relatively hassle-free motoring, I'm putting my 98 STI Type R up for sale.
Here's a brief spec then i'll probably waffle a bit after that and get some pics up:
98 STI Type R in WR Blue (full respray in June 2010)
91k miles (brand new STi engine by AWD at 67k miles) oil changed every 2.5k in my ownership with gen Subaru filter and Millers 10w60
MOT til 13th July 2011, Tax til December 2010
True 3" HKS full titanium exhaust (v. loud) - I also have a Super Dragger to go with the car
Apexi filter
Mapped by Subaru UK from new in 98 - peaks at 1.5 bar and settles at 1.3
18" Compomotive MO 6's (original style and refurbed in June 2010)
DBA front discs and Predator pads
Godspeed rear discs and pads
Recent new STi shocks and Apexi springs
V5/6 front bumper with P1 splitter and fog covers - can supply fog lights if preferred
Prodrive rear wing - rare and expensive I believe
Smiths gauges in dash Pod
Full interior from 30k miles Type R - nothing wrong with the old one, this was part of a heap of stuff I bought and it was slightly better nick and as it's a 20min job I just swapped it over.
I think that's about it for the spec so I'll tell you about the car and my ownership now.
I bought it in March 2008 and it wasn't in great shape to be honest - it needed discs and pads all round, MAF replaced (£300 + VAT), Lambda Sensor, Tyres and a general tidy up. I've probably spent the purchase price again on the car since then - it's wanted for nothing and I've just about got it to where I want.
One thing I haven't got to the bottom of is a slow starting issue - it takes a couple of cranks for the car to fire once cool. I've replaced every sensor and component bar the injectors and it still does it. Doesn't affect the drive at all - a local Subaru specialist commented that it "flew" when it was out on the road and there's nothing to worry about. It's more embarrassing than anything TNH.
One other issue that developed in the last 18mths is a bit of a whine from the box in 5th at exactly 60mph / 3k rpm. Had it out to Brian Downie who basically said he's heard it before, it won't get any worse and only sort it if it bothers you. 18mths later its still the same and I can't hear it now - the new Titanium exhaust helps!
I've tried to be as honest as I can and I've priced it at what I think it's worth to the right person so no shitty comments please.
Here's some pics (some are on the iPhone so a bit horse!)
£6250 ovno

Ta. You're probably right but they came with the wheels and were new so just left them on. I'd imagine they might rub with a larger profile - they rub a wee bit with a full car as it is but fortunately that's only been once.

My friend had a v6 Type-r and it cranked over very slowley too... I think it could just be a characteristic of this model.
Good luck with the sale, lot of car for the money

Cheers pal, hope it goes quick so I can tempt you into a deal for your STi!
Don't be so harsh on the S2 - I had a 240bhp one a few years back and loved it. It was as quick as this thing in a straight line. I'd have another one for sure. Cheers for the nice comments.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
The tyre size it perfect (as is the rest of the car) on 18's on a classic you can't go any wider and bigger, mine has 225/40/18"s and I'm on the look out for some 215/35/18"s because you need to butcher the arches and they don't handle correctly.
