Or massive crippling loan that he can no longer afford and its about to be reposessed.

i'd imagine the Lambo owner will be putting his car up for sale straight away and be searching the passionford for sale ads as we speak, he's probably even posted his bad experience on lamboowners.com................

or the guy probably uses the car as a daily drive and hasnt given it a single thought since as he's been too busy clearing up his local area of shallow hot girls in his lambo.

although i see your point, its nice to spank an expensive fast car, the fact its been posted leaves you wide open to look like a special edition, where in reality you should keep your personal victory personal and by the sound of it store it away in your wankbank for the future.

threads like these are class, i used to think it was funny beating more expensive cars in my old cossie when i was 19.

I've grown up now though and prefer a car that can do everything rather than just go fast, break and rot lol

Perhaps the Lambo owner wasn't particularly bothered about engaging in a daft traffic light grand prix?

Were they trying? Mind you the bhp/ton is still well in favour of the 500bhp escos, so you would probably still "win" even if they were.

You can tune a skyline to outrun a veyron just as you can have an escos outrun a gallardo. If the owner of the lambo only wanted to buy a car for its outright performance, he would have been sat in a Radical or something else as equally impractical but ludicrously fast wouldnt he?

Im sure its more likely that the lambo owner appreciates the effort needed to make a mid 90s escort outrun a gallardo, than he is to be upset about it.

Ferrari is far superior car to drive and own.

I actually went to buy a Gallardo in the first place.

mind was changed by Karl Verdi before I had driven them both. (weirdly he had 3 Gallardos for sale and no F430's!! weirdest salesman ever... but thanks to him!)

Once I did... one is the real deal.

One is a pretty Audi

I disagree, even now I could get a loan to buy a Gallardo that I cant really afford and would cripple me with running costs.
Im sure there are still a fair few in the hands of people who cant afford them very comfortably.

And even if you couldnt get car specific finance or an unsecured loan you could always do something stupid like remortage to get one or a secured loan against your house to do so.

(although im sure Porkie is right in that its less common now than a few year ago for people to do so)

Why couldnt Dave have just said. I had a race with a Gallardo and won...

Its so crap that just because the guy had a more expensive car then he is immediantly a cunt who was laughing at Dave, doesn't appreciate Cosworths or cars, has a huge loan, is a spotty teenager or a twat young footballer AND that he was gutted that he lost a race (if there even was one! )

bet he was a nice guy, successful in his job, who was just out for a nice drive, and was smiling at something totally different and didnt even try and race Dave!

Cause if that was true then they'd have nothing to look down on him for and would have to accept he'd just been more successful than them which might hurt.

Disagree.

Its not about being able to get the loan at all.

The type of person who would overstretch themselves got burnt and are reluctant to do it again.

I can 100% guarantee that I would have a perma-grin on my face if I was cutting around in a Lambo or Ferrari... doing 10mph or 110mph, I wouldn't give a toss, I'd be a severely happy man from the moment I opened the garage door to drive it, to the moment I closed the garage door after having gone for a drive.

Does it really matter in the slightest how he paid for it? Judging by his apparent jovial demeanour, it appears that he is quite happy, and that's the main thing.

The bhp/ton ratios for the two cars say otherwise. Straight line performance and gripp issues aside, a 500bhp escos should have it.

I dont think its just the "underdog" thing. Otherwise the Ferrari forums and Lambo forums would have the occasional thread like "upset a zonda owner", etc..

I think once you get to a certain stage of performance/cost of a car, you start to worry less about whether its the fastest thing in an x mile radius, and just enjoy the car for what it is, not what it can beat.

If its a daily driver and he does partake in traffic light grand prix's, possibly just as often as the Lambo ownser starts a thread "wheres the best place to get a clutch"

The main thing in all this is Dave is getting out and having fun! And fair play for having a 'supercar' beating Cossie.

Although putting shit like this in your sig:

Don't think there is much in it is there?

I know Escos is about 100kg lighter as std. but once you fit big brakes, bigger wheels and tyres, bigger turbos and stronger transmissions etc etc

then I think you can easily get the Escos upto around same weight with all the leather etc etc

If you honestly think the Lambo owner thinks ANY different of his car because he 'allegedly' got beat in a 'race' in heavy traffic on the M25 then you are crazy...

(I know the traffic was heavy and where dave was as he posted on facebook BEFORE the 'race' had happened)

If Dave was cruising along happily and a Saxo VTS 'raced' him and won. Do you think he would love his car any less?

These threads do make me laugh.

People take it so seriously, or just has to have a dig, be it at the Lambo owner, or at the OP.

Maybe it would be nice to just sit back and think that it's quite cool that an Escort that was designed 20 years ago, with the right bits fitted, can still cut it with a car that cost about £90k more when new.

Seems that people do nothing but pick holes and can't just enjoy something for what it is...FUN.

That's a very good point.

I'd like to think Dave would commend the Saxo as being surprisingly nippy that left him impressed rather than 'upset' and wanting to sell his Escos.

It's nice beating expensive matierial though!

of course its cool! its v cool that genuine supercar performance can be had out of Cossies still.

Me and Martin raced an Enzo on the Gumball few years back.

but we were not slagging him off afterwards and saying that he is a kiddy fiddler and robs old ladies to pay for the finance on it!!!!

and we certainly didnt 'wipe the smile' off his face! he was smiling all the time! before, during and after!

afterwards he came over, said he was amazed at Marts Escort. Asked if we were running 'Nitro' and had a little sit in it and me and mart sat in his Enzo (VERY VERY COOL!)

he thought no less of us and we thought no less of him despite him having a £750k car...

Just car enthusiasts. Like the Lambo owner probably was...

But thats not the story Dave is telling is it... which is why I piped up!

As the weather has brightened up and he has a 430 soft top, I can think of a way of releasing the stress and getting a smile back on his face
