One day people will listen to me and start buying them

An S2 has the same transmission, spend the same money as a stage 3 cossie conversion and have RS2 or more power, and a drive train that will stand up to launches like that day in day out....

An S2 can be picked up for no more than a decent saph cossie, impreza or early evo.

I paid Ł3800 for mine:

All I have done is lowered it, changed the wheels and put in a chip which has taken it to 280bhp

Its got zero rust or rot, and can be parked anywhere without getting the attention or theft risk than the cars I mentioned above.
It is also cheaper to insure

Note that mine is an S2, the one in the video is an RS2.
But as I said, you can turn an S2 into an RS2 for a couple of grand and EASILY and RELIABLY clear 300bhp. 500bhp+ isnt hard to get from these!

If you really wanted, you could then swap the front and rear bumpers, wing mirrors and rear boot panel and you have an RS2 look alike.
Swap the hubs for RS2 (Porsche) ones if you really wanted to be anal....

How much do you know about them?

100K miles is only just run in on an S2/RS2!
There are people running 150-200k at 300bhp with no issues atall.
Mine is on 141k and runs like new

quite a bit i take it your car has not needed any major repairs as yet all cars are cheap when they haven't gone wrong yet lol.

Can you give me a few ideas of what you consider "expensive repairs" in comparison to say a saph cossie?

Audis are awesome, especially the transmission.

Parts wise there is good secondhand availability and they are fairly simple to work on.

Exactly.
They are no more costly than any other similar age/spec car!
If anyone is interested in finding out more about them, have a read on www.s2central.net (site been playing up abit lately) for buyers guide/spec/etc, and www.s2forum.com

When Porsche got hold of the S2 to create the RS2, the ONLY thing they changed transmission wise was to make 1st gear slightly stronger

Those 5cyl engines are the best. Look at the volvo T5 etc. They are great. But still the best one is the audi S1

well when the S4's water cooled manifolds crack, they aren't cheap to repair.......

a work colleague had an RS2 and it was very cool and similar in spec to my old stage 3 saff, his repairs did seem to be more expensive than i'd have expected though, and some of the bespoke RS parts are very hard to come by

great car though

Agreed, some RS2 specific parts are expensive, but most are shared with the S2, and that is no more expensive to run than a Cossie.
I know, Ive had both

There are 4 variants of it.

3B - Only fitted in early S2 Coupes, has dizzy and different ECU
ABY - Late S2 Coupes and all S2 Avants. Has coil packs and more power than the 3B.
AAN - Early shape S4 and S4, pretty much the same as an ABY.
ADU - Fitted to RS2, various differences, but essentially the same as an ABY.

The UR Quattro (the original Quattro shape) has an ABY too.

All of the above are 20v, some early Quattro's had the I5 turbo, but are 10v (they are the ones that sound the same as the original Group B S1 when tuned!)
