Default RL7 question

Ive been looking for a set of these wheels for a while without any luck. There seems to be 2 "styles" of RL7, one that has fat spokes and the other very sexy tapered spokes. While searching I have noticed there seems to be more of the fat spoke style for sale so wanted to find out what the difference was. I have heard people mention new and old style but not sure which is which. how popular these were in the day as they seem to be like the preverbial rocking horse poo to get hold of. my 3 trains of thought are, one, they weren't that popular so not that many were made, two massively popular so no one wants to sell or three, Ive seen lots of ads stating cracked/ welded wheels so maybe made poorly and they haven't endured the sand sands of time!
I'm trying to figure out whether Ill ever find any or just wasting my time pi***ng in the wind.
Any thoughts?

Im not sure what type were first tbh.. but most sets for sale are always welded or cracked and i bet 100% are untrue aswell.. its hard to find the older alloys sadly i collect alloys but ive no sets of them eather lol.. But id keep away from welded rims as most are mig welded and it kills the rims as there end up weak in that area off heat involed.. if you find any needing welding you want them tig welded thats the best way for true repair

bobby, they were a club man rally wheel .so they have all seen hardship over their lifetime at some point.

i think if you put up a wanted add you will find them easy enough ,but they are desirable so they cost a few quid .

tbh lee they are a strong wheel and ive sold a few sets.i always get them spun up on a wheel balance to get them checked and haven't had an untrue one yet.but have come across lots of welded ones

Thanks Big Lee, I have seen these, but not the size/ offset that I need. Sounds like it may be a long wait. May have to consider a plan B!
