Hi

I took my P reg Ford Fiesta LX to a garage on monday for a new clutch, they quoted me over the phone £240 plus VAT, when i rang yesterday to confirm price it had somehow jumped to £450.

I complained to them that they should have called me for such an increase but they tried saying that i told them it needed a new clutch so they did it, basically trying to say that meant they had my permission to fit a clutch costing £170ish more. They then said they can drop the price to £410 which i still cant afford

Im going up there this morning with my sisters boyfriend as my knowledge of cars is shockingly poor, everyone i have spoken to has said this seems like they are trying to rip me off, ive rang round other garages in the area and they all quoted around the £250 area plus VAT

Basically i was just wondering where i stood, what if i get there and they cant prove this £450/£410 cost, is there anything i can do? Im at uni with limited funds, if they'd said how much it was going to cost i wouldnt have done it!!

Any advice would be great

u won't even know what clutch theyve fitted either! as u can't see it !
they might show u a box/ receipt of the clutch but it don't mean that ones in the car!

my m8 runs his own garage and it wouldn't have cost u no more than £200.00 fully fitted inc clutch !?


why don't u phone some car spares shops and ask them for a price for a clutch for your car!!!! even ask them for the highest priced /best clutch for it and i'm sure it will be no where near £170.oo for a clutch for your car!
