sapphire 2wd braking problem
Hi all,,
Havin a spot of bovver with a cossie sapphire i picked up here in italy.
The brakes are none too good.
I am intending to take it to a track day, so was giving it a good test run along a long dual carriageway with several traffic lights. Its about 10k with 5 traffic lights. By the end my brakes had faded completely
The pedal was rock solid, but the brakes were gone. You could smell the brakes and the wheels were hot front and rear.
I was wondering if this quick brake fade is normal on cossies. The brakes are standard, but the engine is boosted to 1.0 bar and modded. ( about 240 bhp. It has a boost switch to push to about 320 bhp ).
I want to use the car for track and road and was wondering on how to fix this.
Have been looking at Tarox G88 discs and pads.
If anyone can confirm my suspicions and recommend a solution ( apart from drive slowly ) I would be greatful.
Cheers
Paul.

Given ive no idea how fast you were going or how often your braking, its hard to say.....
Most common are crap quality glazed pads.
seized calipers that always drag so the pads cant cool
crap discs that are far too thin (Worn)

Mmmm,
I know it always going to be a little subjective. I was accelerating quickly but not at full pace doing around 100/110 mph and slowing moderatley quickly for traffic lights after about 2k around four or five times.
Cheers

Well in my experience i always found 2wd brake setup, when working properly with decent condition calipers, disks, and pads, to be bloody superb as a standard car, so id say that somthings probably wrong out of the things Stu said.
OK, so maybe the way forward is to check/replace pads, have a look at the discs for wear/thickness and then try to find some friendly garage here with a braking force tester to see that all is ok. More difficult here in italy!
Thanks for the hints.
Wish me luck. Off to a track day in Monza monday.
