I have a knocking sound coming from the front end, it's a going round, rythmic type knock which gets worse going round corners(both ways!!!). How can I check which driveshaft/cv joint it is???(If it isn't both!!!)
Cheers Kev.
Cheers Kev.
Jack car up int he air and so both fronts are off the ground. Put car in neutral and spin one whell all the way round and see if the shaft moves up and down. Also see if you can hear noise from inner and outer joints. Mine usually does the inners !

Where's the best place to get new ones from, am I right in thinking you can't get cv joint kits from ford. Been on GGR's website - no prices though!!!

if it's the joints on the end of the shafts, these always seem to go,then you can get them new from Woodford garage.
These will cost about 45 pound!
I bought a XR4x4 drivers shaft from a scrapyard for $25 and used the bearing on that one,and you get the other bearing and shaft as a spare!
Be very carefull with these bearings as these are very fragile.
If you need info on fitting post up here!

Cheers mate, not sure which ones they are yet, will have a look later this week. Just one question though, do you have to remove the ARB or TCA's to do the driveshafts???? Cos I bloody hope not after last time!!!!!!
Thanks, Kev.

Last time I had to do that I'd just changed my gearbox, front diff, whole exhaust system by myself out on the road up on axle stands!!!!! When it all went back together I had more trouble getting the ARB and TCA's on than anything else!!!
I won't tell you how I did it in the end except that it involved an old dog lead!!!! (And lots of sweat and swearing) I also swore I'd never do them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trending Topics

So the ones off xr4x4's are the same then!!(or fit!!)? That'll be the cheapest option then - probably just get two complete shafts, no faffing about with boots etc. I don't know which one it is yet, I think both shafts may be knacked cos it knocks all the time now, worse on corners both directions!!
Go to ESC COSSY 'room' I put some info. in there about shafts.
You cannot use the whole shaft as it is 15mm longer than the esc. ones, I got some new Sierra 4wd ones and tried. In a straight line they were fine but round bends they were rubbing and all sorts- it was well bad.
Because my car is low (well actually it is f##ing low), I got the shafts machined down by 7.5 mm and now they fit fine.

I have got standard size xr4x4 ones on my car.
This was longer,no probs with mine.
You can buy the ends that go on the driveshafts,i have done, only Fords sell them all in one
If you buy a used shaft you get a full shaft, i.e shaft,2 bearings, circlips, gaitors, the cup type thing the shaft sits in also, all for $25, well thats all i got charged, bargain!
When putting this all back, mack sure the antiroll bar mountings on the car are the last to be bolted on.
Do all the other bits
and then when ready to bolt the antiroll bar to the car,put a trolley jack under the bar and jack it up untill the brackets can be bolted up.
Thats the way i did it, a bit easier that way!.
