Is the alternator powerful enough?
Right output, etc. etc.

Hello mate

thats a wierd one, if the battery light stays on there must be a wiring fault then, the battery light has a switched ignition supply, and then is connected to the alternator, which when NOT charging is earthed (negative), but once it starts charging it changes to positive (and as you know the bulb wont light if both sides are connected to positive). Also the alternator cannot commence charging without the battery light, at a guess i would say you have connected the thin blue wrie to the wrong point on the alternator, it sounds like its connected to something that is part of the alternators body.

Let me know how u get on

ah right, sorry the blue wire i refered to is the thin green/yellow on yours then, BE VERY CAREFUL where you put those red wires they connect to an unfused supply from the battery (very dangerous if you connect it wrong).

The red ones should be joined together in the same connector (unless theyve been replaced) and should both run to the starter motor, on the same connector as the main battery lead, the green/yellow is the wire you need to be looking at, can you get me a picture of it from above/underneath, i can more than likely help you then
