Apart from closed loop boost control and the capability to run anti lag, not a huge lot really mate.

Alright Stu, tell Kenny (I rung him this morning) I sorted Q121 VOG out, just a case of resoldering the dreaded fuse box, found about 12-15 cracked joints! Sound as a pound now.

Would it be possible to swap an L8 for a P8?

they are interchangable - but the chips are not and a std escos chip is setup for a 2.5 bar map sensor not a 2 bar one as the sierras so you would need to swap that aswell -
