Default Gremlin in 2 litre 130HP Focus!

Hi, I have an intermittant probem with my Focus. When driving in towns in low gears, or preparing to stop at lights or junctions, the rev counter stays up at 1200 or 1300 revs and will not drop back to idle until the car comes to a complete stop.
I had it back in a Ford garage who dont have a clue what the problem is. I changed the throttle sensor and the sensor underneath in the intake manifold. No joy!
I have also been told it could be the power steering pump sensor but I checked the current ratings and it seemed ok. The latest info I have gathered is that it is the gearbox speed sensor which could be the problem. The Ford garage could not find this part on their computer though. Any ideas where the sensor is located?

Or any other ideas what the problem may be? I have to get this sorted soon cos everyone thinks I cant drive cos of the high revs!!

Thanks in advance for your help---John.

I had the same issue a few times and it appears to be when ive been braking up to a junction or in traffic with the clutch dipped with ma focus... Its a 1800... Mine has cleared up on its own tho.... And it didn't do it regularly either.. Just a random thing. Put it down to a fluctuation in vacuum at idle when braking with the car still rolling. Idle valve maybe over compensating for the fluctuation of vacuum levels...

hi thanks for info. but i tried putting it in nutral at 30 mph on straight road ,and let it free wheel to a stop, revs will not drop until car stops rooling. in fact it rises by another 1/200 revs and then drops to normal .thanks again john

this may sound silly to you but had very similar problems on my mates old 1.8zetec, used to rev up on it ownand do all sorts of mad things and it was the vehicle speed sensor! very common for going, cost about £25/£30 from dealers.
