The curse of the smoking cosworth
Hi
I have posted on this topic before, but the situation is subtly different, and worth revisiting, as I guess I cant be the first to suffer from this.
Basic problem is smoke from cossie. In this instance, it is blue smoke (oil). One of the easiest ways to provoke the problem is to floor it up a hill, halfway up, ease off the gas. Then, when you re-apply power, no matter how hard, smoke is forthcoming (quite a lot).
Now I know what you are thinking - valve guides/ stem seals - that's what I thought. But just to throw a spanner in the works, if you roll down hill in overrun (ie in gear but no throttle), then apply throttle - no smoke! This would be my standard test for valve guides.
Also, to add insult to injury, the engine has done less than 10,000k since last major rebuild. For info, engine is as follows:
Esco block fitted with new standard comp mahle pistons and rings (+0.025 oversize and rebored). Fully balanced bottom end.
Top half - bronze valve guides were fitted at previous re-build, not this one, but were inspected and found to be in reasonable condition. New stem seals, shaped rears of valves for improved flow, and general clear up of moving parts.
As far as setup is concerned, it also received a new T35 hybrid from Turbo Technics at the same time, and is set up with standard stage 3 - green injectors, 3 bar map, RS 500 intercooler, swirl pot, breather, bayjoo chip, and boost is controlled by a blitz boost controller.
The uphill thing happens at any positive boost (ie not just at max boost).
Your thoughts please!?!
JJ
