Default 1.6 Series 1 Zetec serious flat spot

Ok my lil escort is making me want to cry, in all gears it wont pull untill 5000rpm, then it goes nuts and pulls like crazy.. problem being i then need to change gears. It feels seriously slow so much so that a 1.2 corsa is almost impossible to kep up with and makes my old 1.3 hcs seem like a cossie. My mechanical knowledge is next to nothing and any advice would be great.

Its a 1600cc series one zetec, with an Apiro powrflo induction kit and breather. sports HT's and NGK di plat plugs. its alternator has just been replaced and i know the downpipe had to be disconnected to gain access to it, could it be a leak in the zorst or is the engine getting to much air from the induction kit, or not enough fuel.... what do i do?? sniff

Cheers in adv

I know the 1600 zetec series 1 zetec had very small inlet valves, which caused a lack of low down power. A few peeps have changed to the 1.8 head and a bigger throttle body. Not sure what work is involved in fitting the 1.8 head though.

Never thought bout changing the head....
Could there be some engine issue it may have that would effect the power, its had a cam belt change new ht's and plugs.
