You can always measure the lift and compare that to value given in Haynes manual.

ok i tried measuring the cam, but the haynes manual quotes the amount of valve lift.

measrued the flat part of the cam......at 31.4mm(ish), and then with the lobe....37.4mm(ish), so from my calculations thats 6mm

The 1.3's have a higher lift than that! Think its probably to do with the rockers having an offset pivot point, increases the amount of lift.

So on that note... plan failed

anyone else know how i can tell if this cams genuine i really wanted to fit it saturday...?

It's true. Just don't know if S1 and S2 cams were different since mk3 XR3i and mk4 XR3i cams are not the same. I know the differences are minor in any case, just wondering.
As a spare nowadays, one cam is being sold for all these cars even from Ford.

I can't see that somehow, the 1300 is something else all together, plus they were only in production for a limited time....
