Default Simple Wiring question! (Help a n00b)

Hi,

Im new to these forums. Im 19 and im currently driving a G reg Fiesta 1.1 LX. As this car is fairly old (and probably fairly stealable too) i decided to buy a red flashing LED to mount in the dash to give the impression of an alram being fitted. (I didnt want to fit a proper alarm as it will cost more than the car is worth! )

Anyway, i've had a good look at the car, but i cant find a suitable passage for the LED to connect the battery and run it into the car... Where is the best place to connect it to? And is there a simple way of getting the LED actually into the car as i cant see any holes?

Thanks in advance!

er....you know you can buy a proper fake alarm thingy in halfords right?must be easier? for wires, find a rubber gromit running through the bulkhead engine side, run the wire through, then reach up behind the dash to find it! OR!
runi it down the side of the bonnet and pass it under the seal of the drivers door!

Had a look all over the Halfrauds site but couldnt find one...

I tried running it through the grommet, but it was a very tight squeeze and wasnt having any of it...

Would i be able to wire it to the same conncetions as the radio? But then would it only flash when the radio was on?

mate just connect the red wire of the LED to the permenant live on the ignition switch, pretty sure it will be red, and the black wire of the LED to any chassis/bodywork point.

To check if the red is the permentant feed connect the black LED wire first, and touch the red LED wire onto the one on the igniton switch without the keys in the ignition.

Easy Peasy

just a quick one
if you connect red wire to a permanent live on ignition barrel, should be thick red, and other wire to switch live, ie wire that goes live when ignition is on probably yellow, then your LED will light up or flash only when you turn off the ignition, this way it wont be on all the time, example when your driving at night flashing led can be distracting.

this works because when ign is off, switch live is earthed and when ign is on wire becomes live and LED doesnt have a live and earth so doesnt flash.
sorry didnt turn out to be so quick, hope this helps

with reference to the above.......switched lives DO NOT become earth when the ignition is off, and in the unlikely event that they do, there will be a BIG resistance
