Default Cutting out....help needed!

hey folks, i'm new to the fordy world and in need of a little help. i have a '90 escort rst and it has a slight problem. on more than one occasion, it has cut out and refused to start. after a small amount of time, it will fire up again, usually with a bump start. the battery/alternator appear to be fine. a mate thought it wasnt sparking. could this be the distributor/igniton module? where is the ignition amplifier module situated? i realise its hard to tell without seeing it. any help will me muchos appreciated.
