I once put an early saph dash into an XR4i which i presume will have the same mounting points as a 3dr.
All the main mounting points were in the same place but i was just using the top half of a saph dash and fitting all the vents, switches, dials, etc from the 4i to try and keep it as original as possible.
I got it all in in the end but took a bit of time to get it to look right but once in looked ok.
I used the original lower half of dash and this fits ok but there were differences around steering column area with one or two gaps.
You will probably need the A pillar trims from a saph aswell as they are different at the bottom where its meets the dash top.
From what i remember the curve of the saph dash is slightly different along the windscreen but isn't noticable once in.
It was a few years ago so might have missed something.

Here take a look at this pic:

You'll notice the Sapph dash (actually a late Merkur - same thing) installed on my 3 door. Notice the gaps at the ends where the A-pillars join. That's why you need to also get the early Sapph A-pillar trims which fill in these gaps. One thing to note is that the screwholes in the Mark 2 A-trim don't match, so you'll need to drill new ones or better yet, use double stick tape and place them in place.
