Default Piston Rings

Im putting new piston rings in a 1.6 zetec, its one of the early ones in an orion.

I need to know if i have to run the rings in?

Im fitting new belts and gaskets etc but the only engine part im replacing is the rings, no bearings etc.

Default rings

you should also hone the bores so the rings can bed in when you run it for a few hundred miles. how old is the oil pump? is there marks or wear on the bearings it is the sort of job you only want to do once.

I'm not sure how old the pump is and the bearings look alright, i know i should be doing it all but its me mums car and i really cannot be bothered with doing the lot.

It failed an mot on emissions due to the rings so all im doing is glaze bustinging the bores new rings and all new gaskets and belts thats it,once it has an mot she probably wont keep it long enough for anything else to go wrong with it too be honest.

I've been told give it a few miles before the mot cos theres always a chance they wont be careful with it, a few hundred sounds more like it cheers.

Forgot to add its all going back in the right order, i didnt just take it apart and throw all the bits in a bag, so it shouldnt really cause a problem.
