Hi, theres seem to have alot of play in my steering when u turn the steering wheel side to side theres a couple of inches of movement either side before the front wheels move, when your driving at speed or down a country lane etc its very off putting! any ideas whats wrong? just had the tracking an balanceing done but no improvement, could it be the steering rack thats playing up or a bush of some sort?
If its the rack is it a big job? looks fairly tight?

i dnt kno anythin about the steerin rack set up on a cossie, but frm experience on my s2 then yeh, play in the steerin tends to indicate a dead rack, in ur case a very badly dead rack!!!!

 

make sure the bolts that hold the rack to the cross member are tight

 

I would check the steering coupler first, as if this wears it can cause this, had this on a mk3 fiesta, was easy and cheap to fix
