Can hear it especially in 1st and a bit in 2nd gear. If i give it a bit of stick in first you can hear it aswell...almost sounds a bit like induction roar, but goes away once you change into the higher gears.

I can make it happen by slowly lifting the clutch pedal.

Engine still running fine so i've ruled out another engine rebuild LOL.

Anyone give me any ideas? Got me a bit stumped

 

u say it happens when u lift the clutch pedal slowly.... is that in and out of gear? if so it maybe your clutch/thrust bearing mate. not to expensive bout £10 but it means gearbox off

 

Yeah mate, does seem to be in and out of gear.

I'll see about getting the box off when i'm next off work and having a look.

 

i had the same noise in 1st and 2nd on my xr2i, the gearbox was worn out.

 

To be honest mate i wouldnt be surprised.

Its 88k standard box thats seen some abuse in the 4 year i've owned the car...going to look out for a gearbox now aswell.
