Default FRST FAN PROBLEM

WHEN THE TEMP ON MY CAR REACHES A QUARTER ON THE GAUGE THE FAN CUTS IN AND DOSENT TURN OFF.

I HAVE REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AS I THOUGHT IT WAS STICKING BUT THIS DID NOT CURE IT.

I HAVE LET THE CAR SIT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND HAVE DISCONNECTED THE ENGINE COOLING FAN SWITCH, THEN THE TEMP RISES AS NORMAL

CAN ANYONE HELP ME SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!!!

CHEERS

the contacts on the relay in the fuse box may be sticking together( due to the high current arcing across the contacts and efectivly welding them together). identify the relay and bring the car up to temp and let the fan kick in. then pull out the relayand the fan should stop. (depending weither is connected to normaly open or normaly closed contacts.) prise open relay cover and check if contact a stuck. if the are care fully prise them open and clean contacts with a needle file or an emery board, but be carefull when dispantling as the is a spring connected to the contact/coil mechanism and can easliy be lost.

failing that pop along to for and just buy a new relay probably cost less than a tenner

i had the same problem on a few fiestas. i tried 3 new fan switches one after the other from a motorfactor and as soon as the car got hot the fan stayed on.. the contacts inside stuck till the car was turned off and cooled fully.. once the new ford one went in it worked fine.. ..

i would of gone for a faulty fan switch myself, as this completes a circuit turning the fan on when a certain temp is reached, the green ignition relay is for the fan aswell

change the fan switch quick and I would look to by pass the fuse box as I bet the fan fuse is near to melt down very shortly and could cause alot of damage to the loom.
