Default idle problem

I've got a escort gti 1.8 zetec and is having trouble idling. When i start the car the rev counter goes from below a 1000 to 3000 and below a 1000 up tp 3000 and sumtimes the car will cut out untill the car is warm and its not to bad. Any idea's? cheers

try cleaning out the ISVC with carb cleaner, and then take the throttle body off and do the same.

idle speed control valve, its located under the inlet manifold, held on with 2 x 8mm(headed) bolts, if that dont work, check the valve on top of the breather is ok & assosiated hoses (under exhaust manifold), usually iscv though
