Instead of synchro rings such gearbox has "dog's teeth" or whatever it is called in English that catch next gear. Lets you to upshift without clutch and with your loud pedal to the metal.
Is this only found in a sequential type gearbox, or can it be found in a normal type H pattern box?
Gearbox operation system has nothing to do with it. All N-4 rallycars have dogboxes (apart from newest Lancer Evo VIII MR which doesn't have one developed yet). Old Grp A cars had H-pattern dogboxes, including Escort Cosworth rallycars with 7 speed MS-90 FFD gearbox operated in normal (well almost normal) H-patter style, but with dog-engegment.
