Default Capri 2.8 Type 9 Gearbox Question...

Does anyone know if there are any differences between the Type 9 box in the 2.8 Capri/Sierra and the Type 9 in the lesser engined Capris/Sierras?

If so what are the differences and is it worthwhile buying the 2.8 box even though it's more expensive? The box is to go in my trackcar ('84 Sierra with 3.9 Rover V8).

Thanks,

Gareth

from what i recall the gearbox of the V6 has the same ratios but has a longer input shaft due to the bell housing used for the V6 is deeper!

Great! So are the bearings exactly the same between the 2 boxes?

Just don't want to have to buy a box from a 2ltr & find that it breaks within a few miles and then find that a 2.8 is stronger and would last.

Thanks.

V6 input shaft is longer as mentioned.
Ratios are a lot better in the V6 box too, more evenly spaced with higher 1st gear.
AFAIK the construction and bearing size is the same.
