How important is vechicle speed sensor?
I just found out that my vechicle speed sensor was fooked. What kind off influence can that have on engine running? COuld ths be the reason for engine stalling when pressing the clutch?

I am talking about VECHICLE SPEED sensor. NOt crankshaft position or camshaft position sensor.

As Bob says, its used to make the idle pause slightly higher for emissions purposes as your cruise to a halt and it drops finally when the vehicle is sationary, unfortunatelt, the EEC cars dont have a strategy that works properly if this sensor goes down, so they tend to stall or idle very poorly.

Thx Stu. I just managed to find such sensor on the shelf at Ford dealership. Will be fitted before running the car. Now only TCA's and shafts and it will be running.
In addition to what Stu said, the VSS also is used to determine spark strategy at idle (spark is sometimes used to control rpm) in the COSY ecu. How did you find out the VSS wasn't working, did you get error 452? Incidentally are you running a chipped ecu? I know of one tuning company whose 270 chip lets the ecu think there is no VSS present, if youv'e got one of their chips a faulty VSS wouldn't be the cause of your problem.

No, my VSS was just mechanical broken. I found it by my speedo not working as speedo cable wasn't driven.

You should have got an error code, I believe the ecu looks at engine conditions and decides the vehicle is moving if certain conditions are met, if no VSS signal is received it posts the error code.
I don't know if Stu cancels out the VSS_PRESENT switch in his chips

Nobody knows anything about those ECUs over here
