i`ve just bought a 1.3 mk.5 2door escort for my first project car as u cn see its a 1.3 cause my funds are a bit low at the moment. i need sum1 2 tell me if i can remove the 4 speed gearbox and replace it with a 5 speed and if i can, wot other parts will i need and wot engine will i get the correct 5 speed off of, any help will b much appreciated as im new 2 all this - thx in advance !!!!!

 

get yourself down the scrappie and have a look at the difference between mk4 and mk5 boxex, may be worth checking mk2 fiesta's as they may be the same, you will need the gear linkage from the a 5 speed mk5.

 

yes you can fit a 5 speed.
i have a mk5 5 speed box for Ł50 with a linkage

 

you have to get a box from a mk 5 escort because the mk 4 mount's are different a 1.6 box will fit from a mk 5 escort or an xr3i mk 5 should be the same
