BOA Capri, issues getting Tacho to operate.
Hi, I have the above car, i did not build it although bit by bit I think I am re-building it. I have had it for 2 years and it's been relaible but some of the works a bit shoddy and I have spent a lot of time re-doing it. One thing was the dash Rev-counter didn't work and what they seemd to have done was cut the green wire at the cluster and replased that with 2 auxilliary guages in the centre console, one small RC and one coolant Temp guage. I always wanted to try to get eveything in the dash working. I got the fuel guage working last year and decideed to do the other 2 this year. It turned out I had a 4 cylinder RC, so on advice I bought a late model 6 cylinder one, fitted it and connected it to the cable for the aux RC and it worked but with the car running, when you switched the key off the engine still ran. I found that the coilpack was wired with live directly from the battery, so it was live all the time. I found this last year and was going to look into it, so I decided now was the time and I mocked up from the relay under the bonnet which controls the small RC and Temp guage to run the coil pack and I can now start and stop the car as normal. Generally the RC in the dash is OK but it does make some sudden dives to the bottom stop, not sure if that's something to worry about or just the possibly unstable connections in the mock up. I don't want to make it permanent though until I know I am keeping it and it's safe. I got some advice from Facebook but it's not very detailed and some of the wire colours are just wrong, so not much good. I did find out I have a EDIS6 module and I have done a bit of research into what that does, didn't even know it was on the car but you learn daily working on these cars. I am worried that connecting the RC outwith this system may be bad for the car, as possibly I have bypassed it and kind of made it run on the old Ford systems, can anyone advise, thanks on advance?
I saw this today; https://www.trigger-wheels.com/store...n-uk/p129.html has anyone used them? I am not sure if it is what I need but it's a ready made loom and not too expensive.
I connected the clear signal from the EDIS to the RC today but it was no better than the signal I have, so at the moment the loom looks like a last ditch attempt.

Hoping I am not talking to myself here but I got the Trigger Wheels cable yesterday and fitted it today. When I read through the information and looked at teh cable I had some questions, there were very few instructions, seller more than likely now closed for the holidays, so had to decide if I could just go ahead or wait till after the holidays.
One of my issues was thet the three green wires that give the signalsfrom the EDis to the coil pack were not numbered and there was nothing to say how they should be connected. So i discussed with a friendand wedecided maybeit doesn't really matter, wasted spark system, fores 3 green wires and 2 cylinders at a time. Our theory was wrong however and first attempt to start I had backfiring and symtoms of wrong firing order. Not being a gambler I amnot used to calculating odds but I came to the conclusion with only 3 wires there weren't many possibilities. So thakfully I managed after a couple of failed attempts to get it right and it started. The RC needle didn't move at forst then it cameup to wat looked like the correct revs then slowly lowered to the stop, where it not remains. So althoughI am glad the car is running again, it's disappointing that it hasn't worked and I need to look at other options and probably have to undo what I did today and re-wire again for another cable, box or whatever.
Here is a possible option. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284440826701 this was recommendedto me by acompany whp fit BOA engines to other cars ike my Capri. and separately some people on Facebook also metioned it and seemed to think it was what I needed. All this happened after I had ordered the cable so I decided to wait and see. Any thoughts, advice?
