Default Dash-cam advice

Does anyone have a dash-cam or know anything about them?

If so....Do they start working as soon as you start your car or do you need to press a button on the dash-cam to get it to record ?

Also for security, does it mean taking the camera off the holder when you park up? I am thinking that they must be like face off stereos as in popular with the thieves to smash a window and grab the thing.

dash cams operate like your stereo if wired right, only if using it on a cigar lighter socket it depends on if that socket is perm live or operates with ignition down to car really, hard wire kits come on/off with ignition, totally your choice to remove or not

Dash can theft happens, but its rare. You can get some very discrete versions, invisible anyone but the nosiest parker. I run them front and rear in the Fusion.

I've just bought myself a GoPro hero 6 edition, I doubt I'll be leaving it in the car though, anything of value is best taken out when you leave the car unattended

I've got a Nextbase 412GW thingy in my work van that's hard wired to come on whenever the ignition is switched on.

The picture on the camera screen isn't great but ok but is pretty good once you've downloaded the video you want to your phone.

The only thing I'm not too impressed with is the function that auto saves the video if the camera detects harsh braking, impacts etc......... I just found it way too sensitive even on the lowest setting and just going over a bump in the road or speed hump would trigger it so I turned it off. If you want to save something then just press the button on the camera, no big deal. Other than that it's pretty good

I am after one but will have it hard wired into the car and always on so it will record while parked if the camera scenes movement (i.e if the car ha been hit in the car park). Just need to pick one & get an electrician to wire it into the interior light.

I want one for my Mk7 Fiesta. But dont really want it running from the cigar lighter as where its located on the car. I'd love one with an internal battery that records/stops when you press the button. Have an option to delete each video every journey if nothing happens.

just buy the hard wire kit then connect it up to a ign switched live or perm live its your choice, most have a internal battery that holds a small amount of charge

Most have internal batteries but only last for 5 / 10 mins at most. I want mine hard wired into the interior light as it always has power so the camera is always on, recording if it sences movement etc.
