Pulled out of a junction and put my foot flat to the floor as there was a car screaming up my ass?!

Loud 'pop' noise followed by loss of power - not limp mode, but gutless.

Checked the hoses and no splits or leaks - I changed one of the hoses last year as it had split one.

All seems fine. No warning lights on dash either.

No black smoke, but it was dark and I've not run it since.

I only drove quarter of a mile after it happened and have parked it up since - in case I do more damage.

It's regularly serviced and MOT'd and has been a great car.

It's a 2008 with 106k on the clock.

Before I ask a mechanic for a massive estimate I thought I'd ask here.

The car's not worth much - maybe £1,300 - £1,500 tops.

Any ideas?

Is it safe to drive a very short distance - a mile or so (to the garage)?
