If going anymore than stage 1 unless you uprate the turbo and have group A head gaskets, it's not going to last long. You'll also need a bigger intercooler ideally (or a charge cooler). PJ motorsport has a good bit on it's website about the basics.

Personally, with a 2wd, I'd go for a stage 1 and wait for the engine to go wrong or you get bored before going stage 2 or 3. You don't waste any money this route, other than having to buy another chip - otherwise all stage 1 parts are used in stage 2+. Read up in Fast Ford or Performance Ford for a few months before you decide the best route, as if you do it wrong and overtune an engine not up to it, you'll end up with a £4K plus rebuild bill.....

A 2wd Cossie will last really well on a Stage 1, but if you like to give it some and go for a better tune, they can spit gearboxes and diffs if they are original items with 60K+ miles.

Have fun and hope this helps

just go straight to stage 3 mate 270bhp in a saph isnt enough you can get the complete stage 3 kit from A1rallyspares for about 500 notes put it all on your self (dead easy) then take it get setup and just put a 4x4 intercooler on running a safe 20psi of boost dont bother changing things like turbo or head gasket untill they go for all you know it could last a year or too

Andymancos is right if you don't mind big bills after the year or well before - if its completely standard - £500 won't do it as you'll need an exhaust as well.

At the end of the year, you'll have a slipping clutch, oil pissing out of everywhere, a smokey turbo. Make friend with your local AA man.

I like to do things properly - that's why my 3door's a minter!!!

It's great having 350bhp over 270bhp, but not if the first time you try to blow away an M3 or TVR, you're left at the side of the road with him passing you laughing....

Also - if going stage 3 I recommend an oil breather kit and a swirl pot on your cooling system.

Put it this way - you stage 3 your car using Andy's advice and do 1 trackday, I'd arrange a trailer to pick you and your car up at midday.

You pays your money as they say!!!

totally agree with pete , but dont bother with swirl pot as you dont really need em

btw you will get so bored of a stage 1 so get your hand in your pocket and get a 400 conversion

To be honest - with a Saph 2wd's value, you're better off buying one that's already modded with a recent rebuild. It won't cost much more than a really good standard one, and you save a lot of aggro and cost!!!

or just rebuild it yourself why pay someone 4k for an engine build its a peice of cake to do a cossie engine just aslong as you have the torque settings for all the pins/bolts which is easy to obtain

if its a peice of cake to build a cossie lump why do i see so many bad builds then , imo not easy if you want any sort of power out of her

if you are a competent mechanic then i dont see a problem in building to roughly standard spec though

i know of a few people including myself who have built there own engines 3 of which are 450+bhp and are running and looking fine 1 of which was in FAST FORD DEC 2002 with 550bhp, alls i can say is if you care about ur engine you wont mess it up and if you do it yourself you can not only save ££££'s but stand back and say I DID THAT
