I am collecting parts for this while doing restoration
i have mk4 xr3i efi cabriolet i am looking at buying a complete zetec car focus, escort etc
what i want to know is do i remove the 1600 efi ecu and just plug the zetec one in to efi plug then just change a few wires over at the engine bay plug and then plug the zetec engine loom in and connect up is that correct
what wires do i swop over
thanks

No you won’t be able to plug a Zetec ecu into your loom.

There are lots of combinations depending on what donor you get. Pats and pre Pats eec-iv and eec-v 60 pin and 104 pin.

There is lots of info on line for all flavours of Zetec from the 1.6 se to the 2.0 turbo Focus Rs all on Oem management but I have no idea on info for the 3i loom.

my advice for a 2.0 Zetec on Oem management would be a mk1 Focus as these are coming up 15 years old and you will find it easier sourcing sensors and stuff.

So how do you actually swap ecu or do you just have both and piggyback the zetec ecu if so how do you do it

Like I say, it will depend on the donor.

you won’t need to piggy back as the 3i will be very basic and not intergrated into other systems. Running the donor in the 3i is very doable you can run them any ware, on a pallet or in a boat.

I would start with a Blacktop Zetec ecu and loom from a mk1 Focus.
they both have 60 pin ecu’s.

I would use the focus engine loom and strip out the bits you won’t need like Ac. It’s then a case of intergrating it into the car. Just the same as an aftermarket ecu but there is a bit more of it.
