Hi all, 1981 Mk3 Escort 1.3 CVH fitted with the later type Lucas Distributor, Ford VV carb - Fires up ok but as soon as you let the key go back from the "starting position" to "on" she dies. If I keep her cranking she runs fine and will rev up A1 (obviously don't want to do this too often and wreck the starter / ring gear ! ).

Any ideas ? ? ?

 

Faulty ignition switch perhaps, when its turning back off the crank motion its killing the ignition circuit rather than maintaining it?

 

Hi, that was one of my thoughts but the probe is showing a live feed to the coil with the ignition "on" - will have to put a meter on it and check the voltage.
