Default Transit 2.4tdci warm starting problem

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie with an extremely frustrating warm starting problem with my transit 2.4tdci rwd.

The van starts from cold first time and runs smooth. Once the engine reaches running temperature, the bugger won't start when you turn it off.

Once it cools down, boom it starts again. It will start instantly with a bump start when it's warm but just turns over with the key and won't ignite.

So far I've,

Checked the fault codes with a reader, none
Changed the fuel filter
Checked the injectors and fuel returns for leaks
Checked all the fuel lines and filter housing.
It did have a stored fault code saying the egr valve was jammed open but when I wiped it it stayed away and there's no management light on. So I assume it's an old code.

It's an ex rac van with a cracking history etc and it's been fantastic up until last week after being stood for 3 weeks while I was on holiday and then it started playing up.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm ready to take the 22ton excavator to it!

Thanks.

Did you get your van sorted. If not I would try a slave wire direct to the started solinoid from the battery in case the ignition switch is playing up on start position(make sure its out of gear with ing on when doing this)

Hi, yes I've tried that mate. When I'm turning the van over some times it's slow and sometimes it's very fast, I'm wondering if the starters drawing too much current and the ecu isn't getting enough juice therfor no start. The ignition is worn and if you wiggle the key it cuts in and out sometimes, so I stuck a new one in and still no start off the key. Tow the bugger 6 feet and it will start and run all day! This is whats leading me to the starter motor because with a tow we are by passing it and she starts.

What do you think? Thanks for replaying.

Sounds like an electrical issue, like a dodgy key switch or solenoid.
