having ust fitted a rebuilt engine to my escort (cvh turbo on mfi) I want to set the dizzy so that its safe enough to get me started and then its going for a setup. im not going to go out giving it boot full's or anything I just want to where to set the dizzy. is there a mark on the cyl head that the dizzy lines up with or anything? im struggling, the last thing I want is a melted engine. also what do you recommend in terms of ignition timing? the last tuner did it at the standard 12 degree's last time even though it was running a bar of boost. I saw somewhere that 8 deg btdc is safer on modified engines.. thanks in advance, if you will pardon the pun
I think there may be a mark, and yes as a rule you retard with boost.
Remember this is only a base setting, the ECU controls the timing, as you will only be driving it gently, it's not so much of a concern, as you will be getting it setup.

There is defiantly a dot on the head, which the cam pulley should align with, this is for engine timing though, if your dizzy has been removed, then this won't work.
Your better off using a strobe light really.

After setting cam to tdc put dizzy drive slot into end of cam it only goes in one way turn it until marks line up the one on the head may be faint as it is done at the factory when it is timed it is about 12oclock if you need to set it to 8degrees turn engine back 2lines from tdc mark on the cam cover and reset dizzy
